Lipo individual cell voltage check
Hi, I hope the is the proper place to put this.
Using a multimeter, how do I check the voltage in individual cells
of a 2S1P lipo.
I know it is by using 1 probe on one of the power connector wires,
and the other probe on one of the balance connector pins.
Read it somewhere a while back and can't seem to find it again.
Thanks for any help.

If your lipo is anything like my orion lipo with the balance port in the bottom.
Then I just put negative in the balance port and positive to the positive terminal, giving me the voltage for that cell.
And the opposite way round for the other cell's voltage.
Then I just put negative in the balance port and positive to the positive terminal, giving me the voltage for that cell.

Thanks Nick, mine is a Racers Edge 7.4v 5000mah 2s1p with a deans
connector on the power wires and a 3 wire (2 red and 1 black) on
the balance connector.
I know you touch 1 probe to one of the power wires and the other
probe to one of the balancer wires to show voltage for cell 1,
and some other configuration for cell 2.
I just don't know which to touch where,
and I don't want to blow up my battery.

You won't blow up anything by connecting your multi-meter to the battery, even if you did it backwards. If you touch the probes from the multi-meter on the battery backwards, it will show a negative voltage, but the reading is still the same other than that. If you touch negative to negative, it will show 0.00 volts from a closed circuit.

All you do is touch the multi-meter to any two pins on the packs balance plug. If you touch the two outside pins, it will read the entire pack voltage. If you touch the center and one outside pin, it will read one cells voltage. Then touch the center and the other outside pin to read the second cells votlage. It's that simple.
You can't screw anything up unless you somehow touch two pins at the same time with one piece of metal (short). This is extremely unlikely to happen. And even then no permenent damage will be done as long as you can balance charge your pack afterwards...

just make sure your multimeter is in voltage mode and not ammeter mode. AMMETER MODE BAD!!!!!!
