My son works at an Apple store and had a busy 12-hour day on Saturday. He didn't think the iPad was going to amount to much ... until he got a chance to use one (they let the staff in at 7a.m. to get a 2-hour head start on learning a new product). He now has iPad lust. It runs all the iPhone apps at up to 2x iPhone size, so it's easier to read. Because the iPad is more capable, iPad apps can be more intricate and complex. The accelerometer is much better, the screen refreshes faster, web surfing is elegant, typing is easy and the new apps are cooler. Should be interesting. They are still in stock at most stores, by the way.

So not only can you program your speedo, you can watch live F1 timing and scoring, then email the guy at the pit table next to you to tell him to stop singing that "Give me back my Filet-o-Fish" song.

So when will the Hotwire for iPod/iPhone/iPad be shipping? Is this a next year product?

Actually from what I heard, you can still get them from some retailers. There was not as much of a craze for the iPad as there was for the iPhone 3G or iPod Touch.

The problem with development is sometimes it doesnt work. So to mention a new product which then, potentially doesnt work would be a big PR mess up too.

So sometimes it is a no win situation.

That said, I don't see the iphone app as a replacement to a laptop hook up, just a more easier version to carry around

I like taking my laptop with me to the track sometimes to watch DVD's inbetween heats, so really its no hassle imho to bring one to the track and if it helps someone else with a hotwire access point to change their settings too, then thats cool
