Hey all, I'm a newby looking to get into Vintage Trans Am. Any advise, suggestions or comments would be appreciated!!! Thanks. I've been to the VTA website and know the requirements, just what chassis is the popular one(HPI)? Also what tracks in Northern Illinois run this class, my local track does not, LHR.

Just a little extra, I already race a Slash in spec class at Leisure Hours Raceway. They don't run VTA there, I think there outdoor asphalt track is just nitro, (I might be wrong?) and they don't have a indoor paved track. I would prefer to race outdoors this summer then go indoors later.
Also I live in Joliet, Il. and know that driving will be involved.
I know that the rules will change this Sept. and was going to go with the 25.5 Novak system.

the ofna JL10E chassis is very popular at my home track. before you buy electronics (ESC, motor), check with the race director at the track you plan on racing at to see if their running the new 2010 powerplant rules for the next upcoming season. if so, go 25.5 and spec novak esc right away

Besides The Track in Winthrop Harbor, Strictly Rc in Norridge (by O'Hare) will be racing outside on their parking lot pretty soon. The Underground is racing right now on the South Side.

If you're brand new, just realize there will be new rules for Sept. 1, 2010. You may as well buy the new motor- 25.5, and a compliant speedcontrol (Novak or a couple of the LRP models). IF you have stuff already, and you realize the motors will change, you can buy a 21.5. Another alternative is to get a Ballistic motor which you can swap winds on. The stators are around $40.

I got started with a tc3 at underground/strictly, it's a great way in. I didn't break to many parts, the people were great, and I still race there as often as I can. As mentioned earlier, the rules are going to change the end of the summer, but if you race electric at leisure, steal a speed control out of one of your trucks and pick up a 21.5 and the tires/body and you should be fine til then.
