You didn't ask about their legality before I mentioned that motor. So how could my suggestion be pointless when it was made before your question!

Either way, decent motors seem to require tall gearing with the BD to get the grunt required.

What ever the motor the BD makes it go hard anyway. Just finished up practice for a state title event and BD's are ruling 12th, 10.5tc and right up there in 17.5tc.

Out of interest, what motors are being used?

The most common motor is the V3. They seem to be everywhere as the run nice and cool and don't blow up easy even when they get hot.

I managed to TQ and win both 12th scale and 10.5 at the recent SA state titles. I used a Orion stockspec 10.5 (new one) on profile 5 with a FDR of 5.5 and 10 degrees on the motor. This gave me temps of about 62C. I used a 5.5t Orion Race motor in 12th scale on profile 2, motor timing of -5 degrees, and rollout of 62mm. I could have run profile 3 easy as runtime wasn't an issue but lap speed was more consistent without the overkill of speed.

I was waiting for your car to dump is was cruising that fast in the finals so would like to know what you think is overkill. Awesome to watch.

I used Troys battery for the 3rd final. I only put about 4000mah into it! He could have gone profile 3 easy. I ran a 6.5 on profile 5 and had all the punch in needed and more top end than Ants 4.0.

Well done Dragonfire and to all other BD drivers. The South Australian State Titles was the chance for the Black Diamond to show its performance at a State Title event since it has been available in Australia.
TQ, 1st, 2nd and 4th in 1/12th(open)
TQ 1st, 2nd and 5th(I think) in 10.5 TC
3rd, 5th and 8th in 17.5 TC

Anyone who tries to tell you the BD is not the best ESC on the market just doesn't know what they are talking about. Congratulations and thankyou to all BD drivers in Australia.

Yep, faster motors dont work as well on this esc, still learning a lot about it. The 5.5 i went to afterwards was faster, smoother and it made run time Definatly need to experiment some more before the Nationals in November. Well done to Troy on the weekend, great driving with very few mistakes. Just wish i could say the same for myself

Hi Ant. Your battles with Troy in qually were awesome. Tough luck in the finals with your radio. I think on the smaller carpet tracks the 4.0 is still the way to go. On the larger outdoor tracks we have here it does seem as though higher profiles work well. It is just a matter of finding a turn that gives 8min on those profiles. I think 5.5 is probably the best but if grip isn't good the 6.5 gives very good throttle control.

I wasn't even close to dumping on the weekend. I was using 3600mAh per run on profile 2. I used -5 degrees timing on the motor which gave a very nice bottom end feel but still plenty of top end. Using a higher profile did give some crazy speed but with only two places on the track to use it and both having tight turns at the end the xtra speed made it harder to be consistent.

Just collected them today 3 tee shirts and a sweat shirt.

UPDATE Since i posted this im being swamped for orders for tee shirts, Im not in the tee shirt bussiness i only had 4 printed off for myself.
To give you some idea on costs in case you still want one. These are cost prices 1 offs are 30 for tee shirt and sweat shirts are 35. Rip off Uk im afraid. Prices drop for 20 plus to 22 each .So it any one is still intrested I would be happy to have one done for you. These would also be plus postage. If you want to do them your self would be happy to sell you the art work.
