Hey Darkseid, nice avatar. Are you running that silver can, 540 motor? If so do you have good acceleration and top end speed? Your gear ratio is about 4:5 I'm at 4:1 with the RS 540, haven't ran it yet, weather is bad here. Does that HPI spur gears come with 6, 8 or 12 ball bearings?

I don't run 540 motors, but they should gear pretty similar to 27 degree stock motors. If you get the 100 tooth spur, you will have a lot more gearing options. 17T is the smallest pinion you will find and that would put you at 5.18:1 with your current spur. If you get the 100T spur, you will be up to 5.88:1 with a 17T pinion. I recommend 100T spur and getting 17, 18, 19 and 20T pinions. I think you should have every combination you'll ever need with those. Good luck! You might also post your question on the forum at www.formula1-rc.com There are quite a few guys there that run with the various flavors of 540 motors that can probably help you better. Good luck!
I haven't ran my car with the current gear ratio so I don't know if I have top end or acceleration. DarkSeid has his gear at 4:5 with a silver can, it would interesting to know how his car accelerates

MikeF: I haven't gotten to run it in competition yet since its still too frickin' cold here in KS. But, the local guys have agreed to run the 540 motors when racing does start. In practice, both I and fellow board member CIVIC91 got more than enough acceleration out of our 540 motors with this gear ratio and top speed was brisk.(I was running the F103RS and he was running the Cross)

The HPI spur gear comes with 8 balls, which fills up all the holes on the outside ring of diff ball holes in the gear. Its a very smooth gear.

How is your F1 running mike? I'm looking forward to finally being able to run F1 again after missing the last races. Finally got a car that has tires AND got my old tires back for my Tamiya .

This CRC is just the front end of a Tamiya, the read of a RC10L, and CRCs suspension.

Mod cars need to watch out on the front strait

What kind of batteries are you running in your car? Im running matched 3000s . Yesterday I got a 20 minute run time on a half charged 3000. Thinking about running 4 cells to reduce weight....run time doesn't seem to be an issue, lol.

BTW your part came in that you wanted me to order. Heather put it in my hold basket for one reason or another .

We could definitely go higher in the gearing. More like the 3.9:1-4:1 neighborhood. That would smooth out power delivery on the lower end and give a higher top speed.

But, I'll wait until the season starts so I can compare to the other cars.

Thanks for the compliment on the Avatar. I have a good selection of Darkseid avatars. I'll used them all eventually.

hey guys, Im new around here, so Idont know if this question has already been answered. I have a tamiya f103rs, and when I accelerate it spins out to one side. I thought it was "tweaked", but I do not know how to "untweak" it . I know it is not the trim. any suggestions would be highly apreciated.

Well since the F103rs is a 2wd car, if the traction is too low and the power from the motor is too great, then it spin out when you apply throttle. It doesn't neccesarily mean the car is tweaked, thats just the way 2wd cars are.

Try turning down the current limiter on your speedcontrol. Or adding some neg(-) exponential to your throttle with your radio. Or try both.

I think that if you loose the diff a little bit that will help. You want the diff to slip for the first 3 feet while accelerating, then you want it to catch and take off.

Default F-1

I finsished 1st in the A main the last time we raced. I had the RS 540 with a 3:5 gear ratio but I did not have the straight away speed. Tim had the fastest car on the straight but he had NO traction at all. Mike Brown was second fastest on the straight then TJ then me. I just got a 100t spur, 64 p and will use that probably with a 21 to start off with then work my way back, 20, 19, 18 etc. If all fails I have a nicely tuned P2k2 that I can throw in the F-1 but I really think that's too much motor for these cars, since they are 2wd. Tim had an old RS 540 in his car and he was like Mike G, a missle .

I totally agree, loosen the diff and you should see that the rear wont spin out too much.

Don't know a thing about these R/C F1 cars and won't pretend that I do. But is not 70 mph a pretty unrealistic speed for one of these?http://hometown.aol.com/yf22k/myhomepage/cars.html

70 mph with a 15D, 6 cell sports packs and rubber tires .....riiiiigggghhtttt

so does this mean if I put my 12D and 3000 matched packs in my F1 I could make 100mph ...I don't think so.

Someone needs to get a radar gun...
