Racing both small to large asphalt / carpet tracks.
Thanks for the info
I don't know what kind of driver you are but here are my opinions. I am an intermediate level driver
1) you don't want an old style, used car that uses slider plates on the pivots. You want something that uses the tube and side spring suspension. (most modern cars are like this).
2) From what I have seen, as durability goes up, the ability to be very fast at the large race level goes down slightly. In the hands of a good driver, they are all competitive.
xray - makes a very durable car, but is not the fastest car. It is a good car for me because it could take some hits.
associated - I don't have much experience with associated 1/12
vbc - this is one of the lower priced cars. It is very similar to associated. It has some good aluminum parts.
TOP - I have a friend that drives one of these and he likes it very much.
CRC - another fast car, however, the front end is fragile. This was the first car that I had and I would break the castor blocks and not notice because they would get "micro" cracks in them and throw the angle out of whack slightly.
v-dezign - this is a combination of the CRC front end and "associated" rear end. It is very fast, but has the CRC flaws. This is what I am driving now. This car is no longer manufactured.
Yokomo - This is supposed to be a good car, however, the rear wheel offsets are way different than all the other cars, so you will either need to find a way to correct for this or only use Yokomo rear wheels.
Serpent - I don't have any experience with this car and have not ever seen one in person.
What car does your local track deal in? If you drive that car, you may have better access to parts. If not, you will need to keep spares for the parts that will break.
My kids are learning to drive 1/12 scale and one of them has a VBC and the other a Xray. This is because of the durability of the cars.
Now this is my thoughts. Everybody you talk to will have different opinion,
