When grip gets really high at the big races, firmer front tires can often give more
steering than their softer counterparts. For example, at Birds this year Pink fronts were the ticket in 13.5 as the grip was just too high... and the firmer fronts would cut so hard off-center that the inside rear would hike up.
That's not to say that a Mag front wouldn't work... There were guys running Magenta fronts with success, depending on car/setup/driving style. But a lot of the 13.5 A-main cars had Pinks in the front.
