We are a fairly small club who shelled out a couple years ago for a loaner transponder set and scoring system. We just recently had to have most replaced (thankfully under warranty) and found out how much it would have cost us had they NOT been warrantied. We could do it, but why...only 3-4 people don't have PT's here. We were talking about just this thing after our race this past weekend--if we ever had to replace the "house" transponders we'd be better off, WAY better off, to buy 20 PT's and sell them at a discount rate.
As it is, I'm all for selling the loaner transponders and making the people getting the free ride either crap or get off the pot. I bet they all crap--PT's just aren't that expensive compared to everything else we buy, they last forever. It just shouldn't be an issue, certainly not an issue that a small club or even a small track/shop should have to deal with.
Plus, how ANYONE would want the pita that goes with retrieving and returning loaner transponders when with a PT you "set it and forget it".
