It's an either or situation...

You can use the attached alligator clip (I use these)

Or you can plug the banana plug into the side and use that as well...

Or if your feeling frisky cut the alligator clips and solder on banana plugs instead

I just got mine, and a power supply. In the 6 years I've been out of RC, I've either gotten dumber (very possible) or things have gotten more complicated.

My power supply has 2 holes on top to stick banana plugs into. The Core charger has an attached cord with clips....but it also comes with a banana plug harness, and a place to plug that harness in (right next to the attached cord with clips). How the heck do I connect this thing to my PS? Can I use that harness? Do I need to replace the clips with banana plugs?

I'm very sorry if this is ridiculously simple to everyone. I'm new to lipo and dc chargers. Don't want to screw anything up. Thanks for your help!

The SP power syply should have a normal wall plug that plugs into the wall and another little black wire that looks almost like a charging cord for like a radio well that little black wire will plug into the left side of the charger.

Thanks

Thanks guys. Apparently I'm a bit slow.

So this thing comes with two banana plug harnesses: One with a male end to plug into the charger, and one with a female end to use with the various battery plug adapters...

Got it. Thanks again!

the cord with the banana plugs on one side and a female plug on the other gets plugged into the right side of the charger, from there, you can use the cord with the male plug on one end and deans plug on the other for your core battery. i don't remember right off hand if it came with extra banana plugs for the left side,

jaybee will have to chime in. he is using the core p/s and charger.

ill be at SIR tomorrow if you want to stop by for a talk. (should be a good night of racing, lots of folks in town for the TCS weekend.

btw, you running tomorrow night JB

Hey guys whats up? Just wondering how many of you are planning to attend the ROAR NATS in june? If the weather hold up we will be doing some tire testing for the track owner this sunday to help pick the controlled tire for the race. After we get a better idea on what tire might be used i will be posting some good starting setups for this track. I must say one thing about the RCHOBBIES track, traction is something you will NOT have to worry about, the track is hooked. And i'm not just saying that because it is my home track, although it does help.

Okay, I figured out how to hook this thing up. When I hooked up each new 5Kmah Core lipo (LiPo Balance charge: Auto), charge current went straight to 0.1A and batt voltage started at 7.4 then quickly rose to 7.6-something. Scared the crap outta me. Aren't these packs supposed to be 7.4 maximum?

Wish I could stop by SIR, but we've got out of town guests coming over.

EDIT: After reading the instructions over again, it looks like a final-charged voltage of a 7.4V batt should be "4.2V/cell for the nominal V of 3.7V/cell". What the heck does this mean?

The packs are 8.4V maximum. 4.2V per cell.

The Core 5000 packs are two cells in series (2S) (all connected etc internally so you'll never see them.)
The balance connector has one wire connected to the same place as the positive, the middle wire connects inbetween the two cells, the third wire will go to the negative.
This middle wire allows the balancer to see the difference between the two cells as well as the overall voltage of the pack.

All lipo chargers should maintain maximum charge rate until the pack voltage reaches 8.4V, the charger will then slowly reduce the charge rate so the voltage does not go above 8.4V, this will keep reducing until the pack has finaly finished charging.

This all make sense?
