hey guys

im going to be running carpet in the next few weeks. What do you guys prefer to run, diff / one-way / spool? i will be running on rubber 24r, 27r depending on grip level, using a standard top deck and chassis. the track will be Med / high grip and tight

cheers in advance

There is no certain answer for that yet I 've already asked the same question 2-3 pages ago but we have to wait till the end of some big indoor carpet competitions
as far as my knowledge front oneway ,there is not a big differences between 24 and 27r but 24 if it is a med-low grip, stay with standard top deck unless you want to try foams
hope that helps
I'm gonna try outdoor setup hope that'll works

For the majority of carpet tracks with rubber tyre i'd say spool in the front. Diff will always feel "easy" but never be fast. A couple of years ago we'd always run a one way, but now generally people lean toward the spool.

for an average low budget club racer like me oneway is better I think
do you set front toe-out matt or do you keep the front at zero???(on carpet)
cheers

First time out with my Schumacher MI3 today. All I can say is car is awesome out of the box. I Just play with the setup a little bit and the car is dialed. The traction is a bit off today at my local track. So running six cells will just spin the tires getting out of the corners. So I decided to try 5 cells and wallaa!!! works perfect car is on the rail, but balance is a bit off. But I manage to TQ and won the race on both expert stock and 19 Turn class. I used SS4300 and 13.5 novak brushless system. And also this my first time to use strictly 5 cells during a race I played with it before but I was so skeptical it will not work but today I prove that 5 cells is just as fast as 6 cells NIMH. All my friends are all suprised when I'm told them i'm using 5 cells the whole time.

So anyone of you guys know have to balance this car using 5 cells and novak GTB brushless system?

i usually always run a little toe out - generally .5-1mm....

just for sake of arguement - i like the spool or REALLY tight diff up front. i tightened it enough where it would act like a spool but would still give a bit if i had a wreck up front - therefore - it was a little less stressful to the CVD's and outdrives...

Got to take the car to the track today to practice for IIC. This was my first time ever running rubber tires on carpet, definately a different feeling. I tested a lot of different things, made a change before every single run. Basically I can do the same fast laptime with a spool as I can with a 1-way, but I got more of them with the 1-way, however I also had more bad laps with it as well. Basically just trying to decide if it's worth it to try and get a spool really dialed in, or if I'm gonna need a 1-way no matter what at IIC.

Jochim,
I would also suggest running a diff on the rug.

as McGoo stated...tighten up the diff....and that should put ya in the range of the spool...without tearing those CVDs...$$$...

I rather change the diff rings a bit more than reg...than have to replace the CVDs....

I agre with both mcgoo and olhipster. I am not quite te level driver that mcgoo is so I ran my diff a little looser on my rubber car which made the car a little slower, but also a little easier for me to drive. It really is a preference thing for the amount of grip you have and the amount of skill you have.

I know Im gunna catch flack for this but I tried the lowered front shock tower with the AE spring perches, 62 mm shock length and "outta the box" pro 53's and could get down below 5.5 mm RH with my set up (which is darn close to the goetz foam setup in the manual.) Am I missing something, or does the lowered tower have to be used with 58 mm tires?? Anyone else run into this? I am using xray springs.

I have the same gearing 5.1 FDR on both 5 and 6 cells. Since 31 tooth pinion is the biggest pinion I can put on the car. I'll be getting some 64 pitch spur so I have more room to play with gearing.

The only difference I really notice is the punch is not there on the 5 cells but considerably have same amount of straight away speed. But then again I have the same gearing on 5 or 6 cells.

I'll do some more testing on 5 cells on my next race. But need to get some new packs....
