Talking MI3 Gets Lighter

I've heard about Schumacher making some option parts to shave off about 30-40 grams from the current Mi3...supposedly new thinnner and lighter bulkheads, and plastic bodypost holders instead of the aluminum ones...

I'm actually going back to 6-cell. I think the weight distribution with the 6 cell chassis was off quite a bit to be honest.

I bought a Vortex 4.5 brushless motor so hopefully that will help with the thermal issue

What are you guys gearing your GTB/3.5R? I am currently running 114S/20p for 10.40 and its working nicely. No thermal issues, yet, so I'll try a tooth lower and see. On the team driver set up sheets, those running the LRP 4.5 motors were gearing for 8.5-8.8 FDR! How are they pulling this off without thermal issues? Only way I could think of was if they use 5 cell?

Woooh! That's pretty low...was your Orion 4.5 at 8.17 faster than the Novak 3.5R? What temps were you getting at that FDR from your Orion? Is the Orion 4.5 compatible w/ NOvak GTB?

I think lightening the bulkheads will save a lot of weight and will benefit the 5 cell cars a lot. I'd still keep the bodypost holders in aluminium just so the posts are more secure. One thing i probably will get are either titanium screws of aluminium screws just to get rid of a few grams.

Try Adrian's Mi2EC setup. It is a good setup to start out with. Go on the Schmacher Pit Space Website. You will find it.

I think you said this was your first Schumacher, so let me tell you, light weight or not, you DON'T want to use the plastic body mount holders! Unless Schumacher incorparates a major redesign in the holders, the aluminum version is flat out better and more reliable.

The plastic ones seem like they work as well. On the workbench you'll be convinced that they are fine, but the first time you roll your car, or get rolled by someone else, the things will push down in the mounts. Or if you take a tough hit, they may pull up out of the mounts.

My advice, if you MUST lighten your Mi3 (which I guess is a issue if you run NiMH and/or 5 cell), try ti screws, ti turnbuckles, ti suspension shafts, something... but don't switch to the old body mounts. The new ones are better and work better.

i had to add weight to my mi3...42 grams...but with a brushless speedo and motor I can understand the weight issue.

Is that brushed with 5 cell? Running to a 1350g weight?
