Info on orion 5400 45c batteries
Please, I was wondering if anyone can help me out with some solid info. I just bought some orion 5400 45c lipos. But also have just read some negitive things about them. Is this happening to alot of people or are these just unusual cases. I have herd people say that the voltage dropes on them as soon as there fully charged. I have also herd that after a few runs they go bad. I have some 3800 30c and they have been good batteries, also ran orion nimh which were also great batteries.So surprised to here that info. I have a set of smc 4000 28c and those just seemed to expand on there own. I also have friends with the same problems so I have choosen to stay away from smc for now. I wanted to buy the Thunder Power but I don't like the deans conectors and balancing wires being all over. But if what people say is true I think I am going to go back and get the Thunder Power 5200 50c. Lmk thanks

I do not run orion my self but i know a factory driver he still runs his first orion 45 c cells and he has run them for some time now and he isīt getting any slower so i do not think there is a problem.

I did consult my local distributor. The TO is batteries are no longer produce by Kokam unlike the 3800mAH 30C. The cells are build by other manufacturer which I not yet get any replies. There is no negative sentiment about it. However they leave it for the users to try out and to comment.

My own experience suggests that's total nonsense. We were running Team Orion 5000 Platinum packs (fresh ones) at the ROAR buggy race at Revelation recently. They produced about 8.5 to 9 minutes of run time as the car was geared. The speed was competitive, but the batteries would fade a little towards the end of the run - not as in completely discharged, but during the last 25-percent of the run the car was not as punchy as it was during the early stages of the race. These are made with cells provided by Kokam.
The new 5400 packs arrived in time to use them during the ROAR event, and they run considerably better. The car would run 13.5 minutes with all other things remaining the same, and the packs were as lively at the end of the cycle as they were at the start of it. It was like another motor with 400Kv higher rating was installed in the car.
I've used those same packs over and over and over again in five different vehicles and beat the snot out of them; probably discharged them beyond what is normally recommended, and stored them plugged into the speedo. All things that you're not supposed to do, but I was busy and missed a few of the finer details of LiPo maintenance. The packs are still running strong and show no signs of fading at all.
This isn't scientific because my experience isn't empirical evidence that everyone will have the same experience as me. For whatever it's worth, I was impressed enough with the way they ran that I just bought four more Peak Racing 5400 packs (same battery) for a new project I'm working on.

I also just bought two Team Orion 5400 45C ..... however, I haven't try it yet because there are no rc races ( at the moment ) until february 2010.
Do you think lipo battery is capable to handle 3 times of charge and discharge cycles in one day ?
For examples :
Battery #1 : in use for Heat 1,2,3
Battery #2 : in use for Final 1,2,3

Yes they can handle 3 charge cycles in one day, I've been running EP 5200 35C batteries the same way you describe for just over a year now in Mod and 13.5 and they are still fine.

My friend propose this idea :
Battery #1 : in use for Heat 1, Heat 3, Final 2
Battery #2 : in use for Heat 2, Final 1, Final 3
Is that proposal better ( I mean safer and longer lasting for lipo battery ) ?

Yes that will probably have less of an impact on battery life.
