I think the bug body would be faster if you turned it around and ran it mounted backwards.

A pic of my "RCGT" car after a class project where I added a microprocessor and sensors to allow the car to steer and throttle itself around the track. I've also raced it normally with rubber and foam tires and 8.5 BL-19-27-and mabuchi motors.

In all seriousness, you really can race whatever makes you happy.

Race a pink bug as a joke.
Race a Boise State NSX because they look cool and shows school spirit.
Race a Camaro because VTA is whats around you.

Have fun with it.
