Default How to charge Lipo packs ??

I have tried to search the forum for info about how to charge Lipo´s but can find any about it.

I wonder how do you recommend charging Lipo ?

I race mod touring.

I have been told that you should not discharge the pack with the charger and only charge them when they had been cooled down. I have also been told that balancing them around every 3 charge.

Any other advice ?

Thx

Depending on your charger... and on the pack itself!

I use Orion SLPB 3800 for 2 seasons and it's specified on them that it should be charged between 1C and 2C...

So I charge them @5A with automatic balance.

set it to 2s (7.4v) and charge at 5amps. Once its peaked its done. Not like nimh where you can hit the peak button again. Lipos don't lose their charge. Don't let the voltage drop below 6v (3v/cell). I balance my packs when ever I charge them b/c I have a built in balancer so I might as well balance them.

As far as discharging packs. If your charger has a "storage mode" then you can use that, but if you always use them its not necessary. Its mainly if you wont use them over the winter, I believe they say to store them at 60% capacity.

practically one of my LiPo ballooned although the ESC cuts off at 6V. My advice if you notice lack of punch do stop the car & pick it up.

Since 2 cells are in use, anyone of the weaker cells will eventually cause this problem when you cut of at 6V.
