motor skiming (trueing)
Was just wondering how people skim there motors and what the tell tell signs are, eg colour of the comm itself, does it indicate overgearing or undergearing, when the begining and end of a segment is burnt/black what does this mean does it have something to do with the braking effect of the car??
Plus on a stock motor how should you skim it, as you dont see as much of the copper as you do on a modified motor, this is difficult because you cant skim right to the end without wearing down the plastic of the comm ???

You skim a rebuildable stock motor just the same as a mod motor.
It definitely needs a skim when it becomes discoloured, or you can see a worn groove in the comm.
Discolouration is a sign of overheating, most likely overgearing, but not exclusively.
Blackening at the edges isn't due to braking, it's due to the comm "shorting" for part of each revolution, it's totally normal on a laydown brush stock motor.
