Default New speedo

Hey guys I'm in the market for a new speedo and have read the first 30-35 pages of this thread. Has Castle fixed the MMP's stuttering issues with the 17.5 & 13.5 motors or is this still an apparent issue? I will be running 17.5 & Mod. I'm comparing this up against the ORCA Vritra PRO Spec, Tekin RS PRO and KO BMC.

Also, is there any particular brand of motor that this speedo doesn't 'like'?

Any and all advice/critiques will be appreciated...

- JBee

The MMP has no problems with 17.5 or 13.5 motors since the MMP is sensored and so are those motors so no problems. I run 17.5 with no stuttering and I know may guys on here run 13.5 and lower with no stutter issues.

i just got a novak ballistic 550 4.5 t and a mmp. Is there anything special i have to do to make this combo work - aside from updating to the latest firmware and setting it to sensorless mode?

I would run in smart sense mode. That way it starts in sensored mode for smooth starts. Then switches to sensorless for more efficient running. Other than that it should work great. I am using it like this with a Tekin T8 2050 in an 1/8 scale offroad buggy. No problems and really long run times compared to the guys running just in sensored mode.

Ok guys I got my a$$ whoop last night running 17.5 with novak ballistic motor against tekin. I have tried my usual setup and upgraded the firmware. But seems like I lost a Lot of top end.

Here is my setup:

Profile: C.H.E.A.T mode
Motor: 17.5 novak ballistic
ESC timing: 50 degree
Motor timing: 40 degree
FDR: 5.4
Chassis: TM E4

This is usually my setup with 17.5 and it's crazy fast but since I upgraded to the new firmware. I lost some top end big time.

Punch control: disabled
Start power: High
FDR: 5.4
Chassis: TM E4

I have been running mod in the last few months. And last night my first time out with 17.5 and this is usually my

The newest firmware should have nothing to do with your topend. The only thing it did was give you a ROAR spec setup with no cheat timing that can be seen when the speedo blinks yellow so it makes it easy to tech if your running a spec timing class.

OTher than that if your in your regular cheat mode nothing is differnt. Maybe your motor is starting to slow. 90 degrees total timing might work but seems very high but if it works for you go with it.

What rpm range are you running with that setup? I can't gear my Ballistic at 5.4 with that high of timing without over heating it.

RPM is around at Start 4500 End 7500.... That's what I was thinking too I maybe the rotor is fading.

Thats crazy low for this system.... I would suggest a finishing RPM of 20000 or higher so you can gear for motor performance but also have mid and top end power.

I run mine at around 5200 and about 16 or 17k for a 17.5.

With a 7500 for full timing (50 degree CHEAT) and 40 on the motor your getting 90 degrees of timing at only 7500 rpm high end. Damn I think it just isn't a long enough straight for the motor with that much timing to wind itself out since it is losing so much punch at low end with the timing all hitting so early.

Try a much wider rpm range from 5200 to what ever the CHEAT gives as your highest RPM range for 5200 RPM. I think you will see differance with the amount of punch you have and your topend.

I would agree, I have been running 5500-20000ish for 17.5 latlely, and it pulls hard from top to bottom. With a ballistic I normaly run 1.5 slashes past N for motor timing, not sure what that would be in degrees.

I also got some runs in running mod this last weekend(5.5 motor), and all I have to say is the MMP is awesome for mod

Now these two setups sound much more like it....

You can also reduce your CHEAT timing to 45 or 40 and gear up even more for certain track conditions. The will yield more top end with a little less punch and much lower temps.
