Default Lexan sheets? Carbon Fiber sheets?

Where can you get lexan sheets large enough to make a body? Aproximately 30" x 12" Also whats a good durable thickness for a strong body?

Also does anybody know where to get carbon fiber sheets relatively cheap? I need sheets anywhere from 1/16 through 7/64 or .062 through .125 thick, all in large sheets, like 16"x32"

You can get lexan from TAP plastics, or any plastics supply store. Most racing bodies are .3mm. lightweight bodies are .2mm and big off road bodies are .5mm to .6mm.

Cheap carbon fiber doesnt exist. Especially already laid up plates like you are looking for. If you are serious about manufacturing some small production run parts I would look for scraps on ebay or other forums. You will be paying about $40 for a plate of carbon big enough for a chassis brand new.

Try this place, I don't know where you're located but this place is in Livermore, CA. They can do custom sized plates and they also sell raw fabric and what not.

If you are looking for some just to look cool and not have any function, the pinecar derby carbon fiber sticker looks damn realistic. Hard to tell it from the real thing, as it has the same irridescent qualities as real carbon unlike most other stickers that just have the color pattern.

ACP composites didn't have any sheets, only rods dowels and like narrow flat stock, and I can't find any thin lexan on tap plastics website. The thinnest stuff I can find on their site is 1/16 which is almost 10x thicker than the .2mm stuff. I hate to be a burden but can you post a link to the thinner lexan? And I'm not trying to look cool, this is actually going to be structural carbon fiber and I really don't care if it's pretty and shiny. I'm looking into doing fiberglass, I was told that fiberglass doesn't have the same structural strength as carbon, but then my brother (works in a body shop) said it all depends on your resin, he says he can make fiberglass sheets that will be as strong as the carbon fiber but only a few grams "if that" more on such a small chassis. With such a minor weight difference and such a huge price difference I may go that way.

Actually the sites you guys sent are much cheaper than I've found, thats why I said relatively cheap. I know carbon isn't cheap cheap, but I've been looking at places that charge $300 for a 32" X 13" or near that.

1/12 bodies = .020", .6mm
1/10 bodies = .030", .8mm
Off-Road = .030-.040", .8-.1mm
Monster Truck = .050", 1.2mm

we sell that polycarbonate sheet in all sorts of thicknesses....call up your local Tap Plastics shop (I work at one) and ask for polycarbonate in .030 or thinner. It takes about 350-400 degrees for it to vacuum form properly. and 300?? more like $12 shipped for a 24x48 sheet of it! give us a call!

you could try www.hobbycity.com they have 1mm, 2mm & 3mm carbon fibre sheets but the largest they have is 300x100mm and seem to be at a reasonable price as well, cheers.

look under the heading - Parts & Accs and then under Carbon & Glass Fibre
