The 3s voltage can cause the motor to exceed the RPM limit for the rotor, causing it to self destruct. It has nothing to do with heat. Almost nobody on here that races uses is motor, as the only class that it is legal in would be modified. Some bashers may use it, though. With the correct gearing, the 5700kv motor can be just as fast, and you can use 3s with it.
