I ran a few races with my A210ss a while back (rookie and then intermediate/sportsman) and then started running an ABC Genetic (same class.)

I can tell you that the Active has a more precise feel, probably more suited to the advanced racer who can set it up correctly. I wasn't able to. The ABC Genetic was easier to drive fast out of the box, but the Active did have a more accurate and lively steering.

Spare parts readily available from RCMarket in Hong Kong.

Ummm, the 3800 Yeah Racing Lipo is a snug fit....not sore about the larger 5000!

I have an A210.....umm, there are a few little niggles with the car - its super quick, but i struggled to get mine set up very well...could take a bit of work to find a great set up - i just couldnt get mine to be consistent.

Great looking little car, and goes great - on my shelf.

Niggles?
Diffs melted after only a day of running....i'd suggest a rebuild before running (mine were preassembled)
Rear Carbon shock tower delaminated....very weird.
One shock continually leaks.....despite 3 rebuilds....
Front bumper doesnt fit under a normal Tamiya mini shell. Frontal impacts send a shudder thru the car
Servo saver wouldnt work as per instructions, take out one of the springs, worked perfectly!

I think thats all. Lots of little niggles that add up really. All can be overcome, but for the money, I'd prefer that they were sorted prior to their release.

I wouldn't suggest not buying one, cos they are pretty cool. But maybe some other options? The Atomic VM2 thread might be worth a look. Looks like a very cool car. No idea how it goes though.

Take a look at the XEVO review on www.rc-mini.net too, a very very impressive conversion kit for the M03/M05 and an outright weapon!

Default Active Hobby A210SS

Hi,

I got one of these a few months ago. Its a cracking little car but I'm having trouble getting the handling right on carpet.

I've tried running both the mini foam's and rubber types from the Xpress mini but the handling is rubbish.

Anyone have a decent setup for this car ?

I'm running brushless and lipo

Thanks

so what happened with this car? Are hop ups and upgrades still available?

I'm interested in the rebranded JL12e, but I'd like to see if there are more durable diffs available?

I don't see any parts being sold on RCMart, are there other active distributors besides OFNA?

The jl12e is the same car, just under the Ofna brand. There are no hop ups for this car that I've found. But stock parts are available at Ofnawarehouse.com.
The diffs do require some work to get them sweet, but mainly because of all the lube that comes in them.
RCMart sells the best tires I've found for this car. Shimizu 60's in super soft, soft, medium and hard. I bought a pair of everything except the hards and the car handled well with super soft on the rear and mediums on the front.

I was actually able to find a listing of hop ups here:

http://www.active-hobby.com/a210/index_aope.html

The 3 way spool looks very interesting:

Does the stock JL12e come with any sway bars?

I'm also thinking that the carbon shock towers would be nice to have too:

I bet these aluminum diff cups would be nice to have over the stock plastic cups:

I've sent a couple of emails to DJ @ OFNA as well as Active Hobby to find out pricing and availability of these parts. Assuming I can get hop ups, then I think I'm sold on the JL12e

I agree. These parts would be sweet. But I know of no place that sells them.

Any chance you happen to have a spare diff handy?

I'm curious to know what the following dimensions are with the off chance that a diff from another car with metal cups might be compatible?

Here is a diff from my Exceed DriftKing (Nanda NRX-10):

Bearing to Bearing:

Outer Cup to Cup:

Main reason why I think there might be a chance that parts may fit is because Nanda uses a lot of the same (identical) electronics as Active Hobby, even some of the parts appear to be suspiciously similar, here are more Nanda parts that look just like Active Hobby parts:

The only diff I have is in the car. The only measurement I can get is cup to cup which is about 53.5 mm. But to be honest, I like the stock diff because the design seems to seal the diff from dirt. So once the diff is right, it's pretty much maint free. Haven't rebuilt mine in a year and it's still smooth.

well, I ordered a JL12e from Tower this morning... looking forward to tearing it apart and inspecting for potential hop up options from other manufacturers.

not even 10 minutes after I placed my order, I got a reply back from DJ @ OFNA to confirm that he can't get any hop ups from Active Hobby, and even worse, he explained that Active Hobby has discontinued the production of the AS210 line

He said he only has 20 RTR's remaining and won't be getting any more... ouch!
