What do you do to maintain your TC rubber tires between races? Ziploc bags, simple green, WD-40, etc. How about for longer term storage (say like a few months)?

I don't have them so long!! My rubber tires run for just 3 days and than they are gone. I put Quick and Bright on it.
Works great. Also will your tires live longer in the races.
I run 2 to 3 heads more on them with Quick and Bright.

Besides storing them in a hermetically sealed tube, what else should be done to extend the tire life, or at least prevent them from degrading?

I usually clean them with motor spray really good, put a very light coating of wd-40 on them (spray it on a rag not the tires) and put them in a ziploc freezer type bag.

What effect does the WD-40 have on them? Keep them from drying out? Make them softer? Stickier?

WD40 works cleans the tires and makes them a bit tacky. Motor spray (brake/contact cleaner) cleans the tires and they stay fairly neutral, not so tacky, but with grip. Naptha Lighter fuel) cleans the tires and makes them gummy (I use this for dried up foam tires).

Long term, zip lock with a little of your traction compound will keep them healthy.

It sure can. The tires usually don't last long enough, but that stuff will melt the tires first, then dry them up as the cleaner evaporates if you're not careful. I spray it on a rag, not on the tire and as soon as the tires are dry I put on a light coat of sauce. Its key to put some compound on them if store them after cleaning them with this stuff.

Between heats i clean them with brake cleaner and long term storage i put some tire gue on them and store them in very cheapish pringle bins
You can put 4 sets of tires in them and they work like a charm and they cost nothing
You have to put some race tape on the top to make the lid shut air tight tho.

What I do in between races is use the ZipLoc Vacuum seal bags. You can purchase a starter kit with vacuum pump for less than $5. I purchase the quart sized bags. Just prior to inserting the tires into the bag, I clean the tires and place a bit of Tire Tweak on the tires. After this, zip the bag up and remove with the pump, remove the air.

I clean my tires with buggy grip between races. Buggy grip a shop towel and wipe the tire down. Cleans well without drying the tire out.

Between heats:

1. After you clean dust off the tires, put Simple Green on them and leave it to evaporate.
2. After they're dry, if you can see any shiny spots just wipe them with a rag. Then apply your favorite traction compound.
3. Leave the tires for as long as you see fit to get the usual traction, maybe not quite as long as usual.

Between days:

Same thing, but make sure the tires are dry, as to keep your pit bag clean.

Off-Season:

1. Check the tire for holes or cuts and the rim for cracks.
2. Douse the tires that are good in Simple Green for a couple minutes.
3. Leave them to dry for a couple hours.
4. Once they're dry, put on a citrus-based traction compound like Niftech and store them in Ziploc double-zipper bags.

I use goo gone to wipe and clean it off and store them in pringles can. Make sure you get the flavor you like best.
