Xray T2 '009.
I've owned a TC5, and my list of complaints and weak spots on the cars are plenty. This does not mean the TC5 doesn't handle or drive good, as it does. Many people drive them because they save $150.00 over an Xray, but I would rather set my head on fire than deal with the frustration and extra wrenching hours of another Associated TC5 just to save that initial $150.00.

Seriously.
Whatever chassis you get, you'll always wonder if the next car will shave your lap times down enough so that you can be one of the "fast guys". At this stage, all the touring cars are really good. Be-it the TC5 which is pretty cheap to buy however needs a few mods or the XRay that requires that you put a mortgage on your home to buy parts for - any of them are able to win in the right hands.
Right now I have the 416WE, Schumacher MI3, Losi Type R, and the Tamiya IFS-R. My favorite car to drive is the 416WE - my favorite car to look at is the Schumacher. I've not owned the TC5, but I have owned every XRAY since the EVO to the T2007 and I haven't gone back to them due to cost to rebuild (diffs, CVD's, etc). Love the Tamiya cars because we have a really good TCS series that runs here in Toronto Canada and to be honest, I get a lot of support from the Team Drivers here - not to mention the car is damn fast.
Personally, I would get whatever car you can get the most support for. Not just parts but set-up advice.

Based on the last big race (IIC 2009). I would say the TC5. Took 1 and 2 in the 13.5 rubber and 4 TC5 on the top ten in the modified rubber class.

Without having yet driven an xray 008 or 009, but having owned a T2, I would say the Mi4, it is a very easy car to drive and carries a lot of corner speed. If you local shop doesn't carry them, you can ask them too, or sometimes it is best to get something you can easily get parts for.

I would have to say Xray 008 or 009.
I was a AE fan boy for years, but not anymore. The best design features and ease of wrenching are far worth the extra you pay. Xray diffs are superior and I've never broken a thing on my 008. Unfortunately Xray has priced me out of another future graphite kit, so if available, my next kit will be fiber glass. I won't pay over $400 for a TC anymore, but I will say I love my 008. I would go with the T2R in my opinion.

I would like to take a moment to add, that if a turn marshal has to tend to you even one time during a race, the time that you spend on your roof, or stuck with your nose against the barrier, is a greater loss than the differrence between all of these kits. So if you end up needing the services of a turn marshall during regular races, by any fault of your own, then you should delay the purchase of a new kit until it will make a differrence.

Due to a lot of common design among those three chassis's you won't notice a huge difference between them unless you are biased. When it comes to durability the xray smashes the other two. In fact it smashes every other TC out there as long as you don't use the ECS drive shafts. I don't run either of them but have experience with them all so my opinion is 100% unbiased. For performance I would lean towards the TC5 on decent tracks.
