can the hakarunjer be used to run a race with 8 cars? if so how can it be done and how many recievers or transponders do i need?

Since each unit only counts one car, you will need eight units and eight unique transponders.

You can run a race this way by placing the units together next to the start finish line and setting the units to begin counting as the car crosses by. At the end of the race you can compare laps and time. Since the units are not exactly in the same place there will be some variation in times, but unless the race is a dead heat it will not be a problem.

It would probably be easier to just buy an amb which will be more accurate and people can use there own transponders.

Easier but $$$$$$$$
