The nimh cars are signifigantly faster, even given the weight difference. I don't know exactly how much faster a 10.5 turn motor would be, but I imagine it would make the two chassis very close in speed... certainly closer than they are now... but alas, we only run 13.5 regardless of battery.

I would not call it significantly faster. In the infield there is almost no difference it is only when you get the long straights that the 4 cell will get up and go. The tighter the track the more the advantage shifts to the 1S. The real issue is when you are on a tight track the driving style between the two is different. You can really see the difference in weight come into play then.
