Default Mamba Max ESC w/ 9000kv Thermal Problem

Hi,

I just want to ask you guys if you know what causing my set up to thermal in a short run time, like 5min.

My kit is TB02 geared 23/61, 7.4v 20c 4500mah lipo, also 11.1v 20c 4500mah.
using the 2S it would run like 8-12min before thermalling but in 3S it only takes like 5min and it shuts off.

The kit weighs around 2lbs. I got Mamba max ESC and the 9000kv motor.
I dont know if it is the gearing, but do you think if I lower the gearing to 16/61 it would help the thermal issues? Thanks!

You're lucky you had only thermal cutoff with the 9000Kv on 3s.Who told you that you can run such a motor on 3s?

Seriously. Pretty sure everything about the motor says 2s max. Same goes for the 7700. I have both. They both say 6-12 cell NiMh ans 2s LiPo max. If you bought it as a set, there should be a recommended gearing/power chart as well.

I've been considering going LiPo soon. I may get the 5700 because it can handle 3s. May want to consider something like that.

Actually they say 6-8 NiMh cells. If you go on 12 NiMh cells (14.4v) you'll probably burn everything.

The 16 tooth pinion will help alot. If you want that motor to last at all you should never run the 3s lipo on it, like everyone pretty much already said. Also I think that the 9000 is not a very good motor for long runtimes in anything. I think it will run hot in pretty much any car if you run it longer than a few minutes.

Ok, so what should be the spur gear to use in this 16T pinion?
Because I only have 3 spur, 55T,58T and 61T.

The stock gearing is 19T/58T.
