Looking to see what people have working best on medium to high grip carpet. Main traction compound is SXT 3.0. Carpet can start off with low traction after offroad has run on it, but on club weekends traction normally picks up to medium grip. On big race weekends, the track looks like an asphalted road.... but these don't occur as often.

I'm know I'm looking for F103 rims, unless there are other options (would prefer rims that are silver webbed in appearance, and have a lip to glue to, not the foam wheels).

I also think that Pit Shimizu's or Ride's are where I want to go, but Pit's if I could.

What's the hot ticket?

Hi,

Sorry for the darft question but I currently run a F109 in the UK and was looking for tires to use, the foams are okay but I prefer the rubber tires and was wondering what works best for the F109 and wheels to suit. I notice the UF1 101 advises the Shimizu 0571 and 0572 with stock inserts do these fit the F109/F103 foam wheels or are they for the F104 only

those are F104 size tires. IF you changed to an F104 front end they would work. But I have found that the Pit Shimizu 0549 R3 soft and 0547 F3 med or 054 F3 soft to work well on the F109. They fit on Ride F103 rims, or Tamiya F103 foam rims.

Would there be a huge difference in changing front rubbers in low grip to medium-high grip up front almost like you would in foam cars like 1/12? Or can you pretty much buy one rubber and make it work? I'd rather just get one set of front rubbers, but if I need to I'll get both...

If you're racing the car in either BRCA or SPC-UK you can't run a stock F109 with rubbers, it would have to be foam since it's "retro" class.

The modern class allows rubber, but you'd have to narrow the chassis to 180mm and run an F104 front end, this has been done but since you're in the UK where the 200mm class reigns supreme, why slow your car down by adding inferior tires and reducing track width??

If you're not racing it, then you can do what ever and the Pit Shimizu tires are great!

I was working on the basis that the SPC retro allows foam and rubber in there class, under there 2012 rule summary and got fed up with tearing and damaging foams lol

Has anyone tried narrowing the front track and how it affects the handling?

I have an F109 and at my current track grip is very low and I can't find a handling balance I like. I've tried all the different tyre combinations that people recommend but its an unprepared track and I just can't get enough rear grip. The care is drivable (and probably reasonably fast) but I would just like it "nicer" to drive.

I've worked out a way to narrow the front to about 194mm. When I've read specs on other 2WD cars the front track is almost always listed as narrower than the rear so I have been wondering if this is a possible solution

I am deciding between a tamiya f104 and a 3 racing f109. Used f104s seem to be hard to get a hold of and the 200mm width of the f109 has me concerned if I ever want to run a roar event.

I have been searching and seems the f109 can be narrowed, but can lock down all that needs to be done. If it is possible is there a write up or the list of what is needed. And if you narrow it below the 190mm, if using parts from other cars, will it still be illegal even if it is under the 190mm since the car is modified.

all you need is the F104 front end, F104 wheels/tires/bearings. And you will have to cut the servo mounts to fit the F104 lower arms mounts.

Finished assembling my F109. Fairly impressed with the price/performance ratio of the kit. Based on others at our track I've build the side damper *very* stiff , and didn't use the springs at all. This is, in essence, the way Corally used to do it.

The only dislike so far is the front end. As I'm used to Corally's (old) F1 front end, the Tamiya design is very basic.
