I also plan to race the f109 on asphalt and would like to know what spare parts I should have on hand.

I haven't experienced any parts that are especially prone to break on the F1-09. Still I think it could be wise to have a spare "Plastic B parts" in your pit box.
Other than that the aluminim caster plate is a "must" as well as the CRC mod with soft springs (my guess is blue for asphalt as a starting point). The short upper front arm turnbuckles in titanium is also recommended. I'd go for 48 pitch spur gear/pinion when running outdoors. Maybe some harder front springs as well and the 3.5mm off set steering knuckles from Tamiya.

Well our Nationals are over and I ended up 3rd overall after qualifying 2nd so happy with that.
Had a few dramas before the finals as my new Bluebird low profile servo just stopped working and lucky I had another one in my Xevo chassis so did a change over and managed to get to the line in time.
Also later on I took a tooth off the spur gear and didnt have any more so lucky a mate had some 48 pitch spurs/pinions so changed it all over but couldnt gear it as high as it was so was a bit slow for last race but lead this race for a bit and got 2nd ...our back straight is 80m long so a bit more top speed would be nice and saw a couple of cars gobbling me up down the back straight but would keep a head through the infield and corners.
The guy that won has been driving an F103 for years and finished 2nd for last 4x yrs and this was my first race with it so didnt feel to bad about that and my mate got 2nd with a new F104 pro and I just couldnt get off the line cleanly for finals 1 and 2 and got stuck on grass both these finals and ended up last before driving through the pack...but tightened the diff a little more for final race and made a huge difference and was leading at the first corner which lead to me getting 2nd in that race so if I had had better starts and not got caught on grass it may have got me up to 2nd but happy with the way I drove and really happy with the car and they are such fun to drive and look fantastic on the track.

Congratulations! Making the podium in your first race with the F1-09 is an excellent achievement - even more so in the Nationals.

Can you please give us your setup

Thanks..
Followed most advice here and stiffened the car up with Tamiya yellow spring/2x hole piston I think., 1x hole piston in side shock with 50 wt oil
CRC mod and used white springs, associated .020 front springs, ride height was lowest inserts in rear and did put a shim under knuckles in front
Hard front Frewer foams and soft yellow Frewers in the rear...these were awesome and lucky his factory is just to the north of our city
caster block was on +2 ..didnt really alter it at all.
ran some toe out in front with a bit of negative camber..all done by eye and calipers as dont have a set up station for F1.
I certainly got more confident with car as weekend progressed and hadnt driven the track for about 2 years but drove the track better than I ever had as car just seemed so easy to drive and would go where you pointed it so you could settle into a rhythum so quickly and it just stuck to the track with the soft rear foams.

I pulled the trigger on a F109 kit plus some hop up goodies today and I wanted to thank all those to helped me with my many questions.

I was able to see a fellow racer's F109 up close and personal last Sunday and I was impressed with what I saw.

I ended up ordering from RC Mart as they had all the stuff I wanted in stock.

I can't wait to build and race this car as F1 is totally new for me and I'm excited to learn about how to setup this kind of car. I will be running a 21.5 brushless motor (club rules, silver can or 21.5) but I'm not sure which ESC yet. I want to drop a Tekin RS in there but I think the club guys are trying to keep that voodoo out of the F1 class, can't blame them really......... but I've got one sitting on the bench just begging to be installed........ but I will probably resist and put my GTB in instead.

Now I need to go back and find out what the CRC mod is.

A range of spur sizes will help. 1/12 cars are using 78 and 80 t 64p spurs, and BIG pinions, high 40s and in the 50s.
