Been messing around with my F109. Got rid of most of the cheap plastic parts (Exotec servo mount, changed the wobbly top deck posts for Corally posts which I still had. Rigged something to keep the battery in place (more spare Corally parts :P).
Still think the F109 isn't a bad deal, but I still have this nagging feeling that if they'd made it 50$ more expensive it could have been so much better.

Mmmm not sure I agree... mine is basically stock except for different side springs and with the right tyres its pretty much kicking all the f104's and f103's where I race and some of those guys have a couple of years experience running their cars... I have a couple pf months

It may depend on track conditions how much this influences performance, but as our track favours stiffer cars, it starts at a disadvantage.

Just a heads up. Have my F109 up for sale with the F104 front end conversion.

Stock shocks are okay, I don't have a huge problem with them. The TRF shocks are noticeably smoother, but I wouldn't be able to feel the difference on the track.
The stock front end has way too much slop that it negates any benefits of adjustable camber that it offers. Broke the center piece on race day and thank god my track had the full F103 front end in stock.

I have a question for the f109 owners and looking for honest opinions. I'm currently running a fgx with the rabbit chassis conversion and I am right on the rear tires of the fastest f104 at our track. My question is would the f109 perform better than the fgx rabbit on a high traction technical carpet track? I can drive pretty well and finish in the top two in our f1 races. I was just wondering if the f109 would give me just a little push over the f104 I race tire to tire with every time we run.

Has anyone tried Tamiya RM01 side springs? It looks like it may fit instead of doing the CRC spring mod.
