Where to cut cooling hole in shell?
 

I've run into some heat issues with my 6900 in my ta05-ifs. LHS ordered a motor heat sink, but it won't be here in time for the next club race. I've cut a small circle out of the body, but it seems the airflow just passes right along and doesn't actually go into the car itself. I've thought of cutting out the whole front windshield, but that would defeat the purpose of aerodynamics and deflecting debris. Should I just cut half of it out (the side of the esc/motor) and stop right where the windshield stops (up top)? Then the roof's edge may just be able to catch some current...

Not afraid to screw this body up. It's a beater. Flaws of my idea that I see: sure the current will get scooped in, but it'll hang out along inner side of the roof until it exits the rear of the shell. Maybe I could remedy this with a lexan airscoop?

Opinions? Suggestions?

Drop a couple teeth on the pinion gear.

Remember that you need exit holes at least twice the size of your entrance holes to get proper airflow. Hot air tends to pool around it's heat source and will actually displace cooler air. You need to create a vacuum effect to pull the hot air out first to get any real cooling effect from vent holes. Otherwise the cool air will just flow around the pocket of hot air. I learned this from flying RC planes, hope it helps you.

Agree on the gearing and airflow thing. Maintence the motor if it's brushed. Also might want to take the motor out to cool inbetween heats or use two different motors. I used to do that alot.
Now with the cutting of the body. You might want to check with your track first. Normally your not aloud to cut holes in the body unless it's nitro.

Thanks for the ideas! I think I can deal with a bit more torque. I'm running a brushless motor, but swapping motors sounds like an awesome plan if I was running stock motors and they were cheap.

Hmm, twice the size of a cut in the back, eh? Must try it out. Vacuums fascinate me.
