Questions?? Need recommendation for a parking lot racer

Ok guys,

I am going to give it another go with some local parking lot racing. Nothing too competitive, just a dozen or so terrible drivers trying to have some fun. The parking lot we race at has not been groomed, it’s full of pebbles, mulch, dirt and leaves. I’m currently running an old Associated TC3 and having a good time with it.

Because of the poor surface (pebbles), I think a belt driven car is out of the question. I REALLY want to buy a kit and build it myself. Is Tamiya going to be my ONLY option? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for any guidance.

Been a few asking this in past month or so. I used to prefer shaft driven for that reason. I run both belt and shaft on unprepared surfaces mostly. From low budget BT4 to my Serpent 4x and my Awesomatix. Had the occasional spur gear get damaged. And a couple belts damaged. But it’s a pretty routine job to swap a belt on typical touring cars.

any idea what the others will be running?

Pretty much everyone else is running Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0’s.

I figured that belts would take quite the beating and that I better try and stay away from them, if possible.

I think you could go for the Kyosho Fazer. Or the MST XXX-R.

Otherwise Tamiya.

I’ve been very surprised by what belts hold up to. Now the 4Tec a tank compared to standard touring cars. I know you prefer a kit. But maybe getting a 4Tec, seen a number for sale, might be the choice. Keep the field even.

Heres recent video of mine. Brushed

Parking lot duty has the Traxxas TankTec written all over it. Easy to source parts for one thing. I also run a TA-07PRO, and an FF-03 for parking lot duty. And those two beat the 4Tec in general performance, definitely not in durability. All of our cars are similarly equipped for electronics.

Unfortunately, it looks like Kyosho doesn’t offer kits anymore.

Tamiya fanboy so im gonna suggest tamiya. XV01 might be what you're looking for, its a belt rally car with a sealed up drivetrain. Tb05 would be a higher performer that also has the fragile bits covered up.
Like others said, tamiya will be a bit more fragile, but 100% will have better handling

If appears like the TT-01 or TT-02 seems to be the logical choice, being that the options are so limited. The great news is that they are super cheap

Except that none of us really recommend them. But if kit is the important part.

Like most of you, I’m pretty sure, the ability to build it is very important. Not to mention the price, because I love having an extra kit laying around to steal parts out of. I know durability will be an issue, which is a big negative.

The building part I can take or leave. Majority of my Touring cars are RTR or used. Probably 10 used. That I could not setup as well as the previous owners did.

I'd just stick with the TC3, a TT01 or TT02 will be a noticeable downgrade.

Going off my experience with the MST TCR..... I suspect the MST XXX-R is a really fun kit to build, and will perform well. It's got all the adjustments the TT-01 and TT-02 don't have. Take it at on the advice of soemone who's not built one.. but I'd go XXX-R
