New cells from Sanyo and Panasonic
Just saw that on RCMX.NET web site and RCZone:
sorry for the bad translation from babelfish
New Panasonic 3500! !
WithRCZone, the new nickel hydrogen battery "Panasonic 3500"of Panasonic was introduced. Something the air the ??? way does, but when it is classified into the SUB-C cell once, is. The square ? ? it is written, it is with, it will be by chance, there is no cylinder? ? Whether or not the kind of air which becomes level... present you drop problem and, are packed and are settled in the hole don't you think? is. It is attention in future trend.

New electrode material "super lattice alloy"
At newsrelease of sun yaw, the electrode material "superlattice alloy" where the one for nickel hydrogen electric batteryis new was announced.
Main feature is as follows
1. High increasing capacity which exceeds the formernickel hydrogenelectric battery actualization possibility
2. To be superior in discharge quality, low temperature quality to improve,it is ideal even inhigh power use
3. Costconversion is possible low
Be able to expect also this technology rather, it may being, the shank -. Finally it becomes arrival of 4000mAh age? Don't you think? it is large attention even in this.

Well, if you look at that picture of the Panasonic cell, it does say NiMh, so I'd guess that chemically, it's the same as what we use now. The big differene looks like it's in the size & shape of the cell(as well as possibly the plates inside the cell), that's probably how they managed to get them up to 3500mah. However, we'll have to keep in mind that it could be quite some time before any of them are approved for sanctioned racing use(unless a big company like Trinity decides to back them & get the sanctioning bodies moving on it)....

I wonder how those square shaped cells would fit the chassis slots....

Anyway, if they're not released soon they won't be legal for racing, at least in france (for Utieh) and UK.

I hope Sanyo & Panasonic finally steps up to the plate! So prices of cells get cheaper.. Or at least I hope they get cheaper? It's not like I am running 3 packs per car like when we had nicads.. I only running one pack of GP3300 per car on race night.. So a battery war won't hurt me.

That's the truth....
GP 3300's lower the price levels. I don't think 3300's cost that much.
We have some 1.17's for $8.85 a cell
1.16 @ 30amps 420+ $6.85 a cell
thanks,
Steve

K guys incase you didnt know about prices of cells this is how it goes.
If you havent been racing a while you wouldnt have a clue so it's understandable.
If you guys think racing batteries are expensive now you are CRAZY and need to find a new hobby.lol.
GP's are the best thing since sliced bread.
1700,2000,and 2400 top packs were NO cheaper than $60.00-90.00.$50.00 mailorder for nice pack which we can get 3300 NICE packs for $39.95 or cheaper.
Sanyo and Panasonic cells have always had a set price due to TRINITY.But you also have to thank trinity in one way of buying so many cells to guarantee we have cells for racing conditions.
GP has NO exclusivity like Sanyo and Panasonic did with trinity and THAT is one major reason the COST of cells have come way way down.Guys right now is the BEST time I have ever seen prices on racing packs.MORE than fair.
So how can they get cheaper?Get real.

there's no way those panasonic cells will be allowed to race ...at least not in the same category as the current GP or Sanyos...
to say it's Sub C is a joke.the extra capacity only comes from the extra volume of the cells at the squared edges.
I would love to see the new Sanyo cells though..and frankly if Sanyo maintain manufacturing plants in Japan there is NO WAY we can expect cheaper cells. The reason we have cheaper GP's are simply bcos it's made in China.
