Taz_S....it's only tamiya mini's.

Timmy Heiser hanging in there with the big dogs in 19T and Modified....that's awesome considering timmy is only 14 or 15yrs old!

good job timmy!

great coverage!

it looks like 19 turn is almost as fast as mod but brushless is s l o w. What kind of motors are the b-less guys running?

Rev - good observation but not a good comparison. 19 turn is running foam tires which are good for at least a lap and half or two laps in five minutes over the Take Off handout rubber tires the brushless guys are running. I was down there this morning to watch a round of qualifying, the foam tire guys (stock, 19 turn and modified) have laid down so much traction that the rubber tire cars are having serious traction roll problems too requiring a very deliberate and conservative driving style. I sat with Jeff Gundlach for an hour or more discussing the changes he had to make to his X-Ray to just get it driveable.

Brushless is running the standard Novak motor and speed control, put the cars on foam and they'd be just as fast as the 19's and mod's.

i think it's impossible.....

brushless averages laps are 2 secs slower than modified, just changing rubber to foams wouldn't ever down 2 secs lap times ......

Actually, it probably would. Try driving both side-by-side sometime.

Also note that aside from a handful of guys, most of the better drivers are running foam.

Mains will be coming in a couple of hours, qualifying just ended.

Flack TQ Stock foam
Lemieux TQ 19T foam
Tosolini TQ Mod foam

Arrow Barracuda R2...

OVA,

I think that I have the only cuda at this event. I'm running brushless. Qualifying was O.K. considering I didn't have much of any practice time before friday's qualifiers . It would be pretty cool if the brushless class could have run foam, we'd be a bit faster.

I had the worst freaking luck in the brushless class. I was on an A-main pace twice and both times my batteries dumped in the last couple of laps. You'd think a big time internet guy like me could find a battery sponsor!

Radio hits derailed me in the last qualifier. It was a pretty fun class though, when all is said and done. I am told that next year it will be back at the Novak, and will be run on foams to match the other fast classes. I think more of the big-time drivers will be up for it on foams.

Shane, you should have splurged on a new matched pack.

anyway, i think that the novak may prove that brushless cars can run in competitive events. I like the fact that they can run them 6 min.

Salvadori - Please re-read the second sentence of my post - and also compare the times of stock rubber vs stock foam in previous posts which is also consistent with the difference form 19t foam and mod vs brushless on rubber. The track conditions really are affecting the rubber tire classes adversly which makes it impossible to make a realistic side by side comparison of brushless vs brushed mods at this race.

Thanks a bunch! I know that jw, the trackside webmaster was posting through his cellular modem, and the pics really took a while to load. It took me a long time even on a 56k.

I'll go through my stuff here in a minute and see what I have to post.

Someone asked for pictures of the brushless car setups for how they are wired up.

Here is a random brushless Losi I walked past:
