Max Amps Lipo Saddle

Just trying to figure something out with my 12th scale. I've got a 12L4 wouldn't this fit. I've done some measuring and it's a pretty good fit. Am I missing something? Just wondering. See below link. Let me know what you think.

I am not sure if it would fit correct or not. I do not have my cars in front of me at the moment to measure either. The 12L4 car is meant for 4 cell operation so it has limited space for the batteries. I own a 6 cell chassis from Hyperdrive that is 12L4 based, (it's for sale). This type of chassis should accomodate the 7.4 lipo for sure. Maybe someone else can chime in.

Hey no worries, in fact I kind of wonder the same thing. I think that if they would have allowed 7.4 lipos to be used instead of the single cell idea and then focused the change in the motor area things could have been easier. At least for our electronics that are already made. There have been other people of have said that they tried 7.4 lipos before in their 1/12ths. I am sure someone will chime in.

The problem is the 66mm long, a standard sub-c is aprox 45mm add another 8mm for battery bars, bullit connectors or what have you and I get a max lenght of 53mm. Adding another 13mm is alot in a 1/12 car even with todays smaller electronics. Not to mention that it would be balistic fast and hard to control.

Chris,

I was just thinking that with my 6 cell designed chassis and a Novak 21.5 motor with standard gearing, maybe even a gearing limit that this would have been a way that the class could have gone. With lipos being light I still think that the cars would have been lighter than before but obviously not as light as the 1 cell cars. Have you tried anything like what I posted?

YOu can re wire that pack for 3.7v operation. You need to wire it for parallel instead of series. You should actually get more runtime that way.

Well I've tied several different combos, and I have two old 12L and a 12i car that used the old six cell configuration when we ran Sanyos:lol:

But as you can see in order to fit things we had to stand up the rec and sometimes the esc which would not fit under todays lower bodies. Its possible that with some creative wiring/placement you might be able to do it and still be able to balance; but even with a 21.5 it would be like driving a mod:nod:. I personally love the small sub-c A123 cells, at 1100mah thay will make runtime in stock, will fit any style chassis, have the nimh punch with the lipo lite weight, and are safe(in my testing anyway). Plus with a low mah it would bring gearing back into the picture in the superstock and mod classes. Here is a pack in my S120.

I'm also doing some playing around with 380 motors, which could be very interesting but may be too lite for good handling. At my age I'm not a very competitive driver but I love to fuss with different things:D

Chris,

Thanks for all the help you have given. I greatly apperciate that. I was just trying to find something different and more user freindly other than NiMH packs. No biggie. Thanks though for your time.
