ESC - Lipo cut off - new to racing.

Sorry guys, I am just starting out with racing.

Running 540 (silver can)

What is a good ESC to get that has auto lipo cut off??

I really wanted an LRP brand ESC..

I only want to run 7.4volt 2S lipos.

Thanks alot.

i love my Tekin FX Pro (use it for 540, )it is brushed only and has auto cut off. But if i was to buy a new speed controller i would be looking for a brushless speed controller so in the future you could easily upgrade to 17.5, 13.5, 10.5 etc. Again i would recommend a Tekin RS for brushed/brushless controller.

(i don't know much about LRP, but would be surprised if most if not all didn't have auto cut off)

We run stock 27t motors for 5 minute races at out club, and we probably drain between 1000 to 1200mAh from the batteries. As long as the silver can motors aren't horribly inefficient then they will probably take even less so you will be fine with no cut-off.

My friend runs the Yeah Racing lipo's (3200) with a stock motor and last night we ran an endurance event where he easily ran for 10 mins, so you should be fine. As for the performance of the Yeah Racing batteries, I think they are fine for the slower motors, they may be slightly lacking if you want to run mod though.

Regards

Neal

you wont need any more than 60A for a 540 or even stock, any where between 30-60 is plenty.

Back to lipo's! Brushed or brushless. Lipo's are different from NiMh. NiMh could be disharged .09-0v. Lipo's discharge 3v each cell, At 7.4v lipo's, lipo should NOT be discharge 6v altogether. For longevity of lipos. Good ESC should have Cut-off voltage, or dischaged by time.

Remember, it's important, NOT to overdischarge lipo pack. Rule of thumb, NOT to discharge them below 6v on an 7.4 lipo pack, 9v @ 11.1v lipo, and so on.

IF, ESC like TekinsRS/RSPRo can customize cut-off voltage at 6v - 6.50v, My rSPRO is set at 6.50, w/7.4v lipo, and 9.6v w/11.1v lipo. with no problems arising. My lipo are 9 month old, and raced every two weeks.

Its very easy to destroy a good lipo pack by overdischargeing them.

Good Luck with lipo's!!! Haven't used NiMh's in 9 months. Lipo are the future of RC's. Just use the correct charger, and use the rule of thumb on discharging.
