The new xray CST oils
Hi guys, im not sure if anyone will be able to help but.....
Im hoping to switch over to using xray oils in a car other than an xray! however after reading the xray forums and finding a coversion chart the equiv oil for there 40wt is a 1000cst oil, after trying this in some shocks it is most definatly thicker than any oil i have ever seen! definatly thicker than some associated 60wt i have.
After trying some xray 400CST oil in a shock it feels much the same as an associated 45wt, and definatly thicker than associated 30wt even though xray 400CST is ment to be a 30wt oil!.
I know that the way a company tests the oils is completely diffrent, but i would be curious to know if any one has tested these new oils and found equivs in other ranges? ive noticed the 009/008 set ups use pretty much XRAY 350CST oil every were, is it safe to presume it is close to most other companys 40wt?

Sounds complicated. If you have a lot of other stuff that makes sense, stick with that. The Xray stuff will probably cost more and be the same thing. There's probably better places to spend money, but if your dead set on it, use what they're using and stay close to that until you figure out what oil does what.

I have some of the new Xray oil have not gotten to test it yet. Here is what I can tell you. I have tested the old Xray "W" oils and they are really close to what they rate them in CST. I would assume for now the new oils are close to their CST rating as well, so you can use this chart I did from losi oil to get a close answer to what you are asking.

As you see the 70wt is heavier than the 80 wt. I have had this happen before and it varys from batch to batch. When I built up shocks with 70 and 80, for sure 80 was lighter.
AE oil might be different than losi I have not tested that yet.
