Default Need help RRP Pinion 64P 40T will not fit with 64P 116T

Trying to gear mesh a Robinson Racing Pinion (64P 40T) against the stock Xray T2'008 spur gear (64P 116T) and this is close to the final section of the build (what a b*tch haha)
Motor is a Novak SS 10.5T and the pinion slides on smoothly.
Now, even when I screw down the motor all the way to the right of the bulkheads (front of car on your right hand side) and furthest away from spur gear, the pinion is super tight against the spur gear almost biasing the shaft. And I have no freeplay, thus not being able to set proper gear mesh at all. Is my pinion too large in teeth numerically? Should I opt for another/lower tooth count or what?

Let me know what your guys take is on this.

I need help haha

Regards

I would have to say it sounds like the pinion is to big for use with that spur gear.

Either go with a smaller pinion gear or a smaller spur gear.

If I were you ill go down size in pinion then work your way up. Better to be under geared them over geared.

On my 009 im running a 100 tooth spur. you need 100 or 104 tooth spur i think that with a 104 you can go up to 45 tooth pinion.

lol ok ok ok I'll go today! wait its already today...nice day to race around...damn need that pinion or spur situated.

Ok, great tips...so, I know for a fact that using 116T divided by 40T = 2.9 (FDR)

Lets say I don't know the size/layout of the track yet.

How do I know if I will be over/under geared?

What is a comfy/universal FDR for my setup?

Can somebody tell me how to translate Final Drive Ratio into technical terms of what it actually means? :P

Really appreciate it!!

I get all my info from old timers and people who know a lot so I sux at fuguring out your FDR. I'm going to start using 64P 100T spur and 30T thru 40T for my tc5r. I know its all different because your car has a different internal gear ratio.

Hope you find the info you need
