MTC1 or TC7.2?
About to pull the trigger on a new ride. I just moved to Milwaukee so I do not have or know of a local track to see what the masses are running. I travel a lot to cities where there are both asphalt and carpet tracks, so with either the MTC1 or the TC7.2, I am purchasing the aluminum chassis and stiffer top plate; that and the fact that we are on the verge of carpet season.
I come from an old Xray T4, I had a TC3 back in the day, and still have a B6 Factory Light laying around collecting dust. I have never run nitro so I never had the opportunity to try Mugen. I was excited to see the MTC1 and had the money saved up ready to go. But then AE dropped the TC7.2 and it looks legit.
Both cars are around the same price (TC7.2 about $10 more), what do you guys suggest for a guy getting back into the touring car game, but with no local track support?

Stay with Xray, wait for the 2019 or buy good deal on 2018. Not sure what year was your old T4. The super short dampers on 2018 make it so good. And u know the durability.

My Xray is old, its a 2013 Spec. I know Xray is on point, it has been since its been around, but so has AE. The more I look at the 7.2 the more I like it.

probably because the Mugen is hard to get it to work well on black crc carpet , I had it for a while and I got it to somewhat perform on carpet but the car was not really that great , on asphalt is another story , I thought the Mugen worked very good, but I think there is lack of support for the car from Mugen .

I heard about the Oshkosh track but never heard about Windy City, thanks!! If there are any other tracks in the area, please advise.

Those are the main two, both black carpet tracks. There are also some asphalt racing in Illinois too that are scattered out.
Windy City tends to have a good turnout for VTA and their spec 21.5 TC class. Oshkosh tends to have a good turnout for VTA also and sometimes USGT. Small mod TC classes at both.
Windy has a really nice facility and a bigger track, just annoying to pay all the tolls making the trip there. Oshkosh is much smaller but still a lot of fun competition.

I'm shocked to hear that any racer that went from AE to Mugen went back to AE. I still have my 7.1 and it sits and it only used for motor testing. Side by side the quality of the Mugen is 100 times better than the AE. Plastics don't clap out as fast and attention to detail on the Mugen is top notch. I've only run mine on asphalt so I have no carpet experience with the Mugen so far. Carpet starts shortly so we'll see how it performs.

was there a problem with the diff gear? I havent had an issue with mine so far. It doesn’t leak and it’s basically idiot proof with the fill line provided. You also can mark the weight fluid you have in it. That attention to detail you wont see on the AE👍🏽

Yeah they fell apart lol. I agree with you on the attention to detail though.
