Such shame for these clones. But you get what you pay for. The only thing I'm a bit weary is if and when these clones shows up as counterfeit, meaning, same box, same instruction sheet, as the Tamiya 416WE and even sold as such.
It would be a shame if that happens.
As much as I would like to see RC interest and user base grows, I don't believe in Socialism or Communism where these cars should have a price control and that EVERYONE deserves and RC car.
My multi-cultural background have taught me that you work hard in life in order to achieve and earn things honestly... Just because a Tamiya kit is $400+ doesn't mean that it's TOO expensive. There are lots of people with earning power that laughs at a $400 price tag...
If you can't afford the hard work, the blood, sweat, and tears, that went into designing, marketing, producing, distribution, of a beautiful piece of machinery such as the REAL Tamiya 416WE, you deserve a POS, clone...
I have nothing but reverence and respect for companies like Tamiya. I don't think they lost any market share because people who would buy clones and cheap copies would've never bought the real thing anyways.
Plagiarism sucks. Many industrial components are targetted for counterfeiting, and I hope Tamiya takes similar security measures for the end-user to be able to distinguish a genuine and non-genuine product.
Making 3rd party aftermarket parts that is similar in shape to the original is one thing, cloning an ENTIRE car is another.
