Default Help Me Identify This Car!

My brother got this car and we have no idea what it is. Also, when ever I accelerate, the 2 spur gears move fine, but the 4x4 belt drive slips and hesitates. The belt and the gears seem to be fine, but i dont know where to begin as i have never owned an on road or a 4WD car Any help is appreciated.

I tried to find this car through the web and search engines but there are so many onroad cars and I have no idea even how old this thing is! I'm sure there are obvious things i missed so please mention something that may be of help in identifying this car and problem!

Thanks in advance! Klen

well, the 2 speed and layout makes me think HPI RS4.

You should be able to tighten the belts by removing the diffs and tilting them slightly. they sghould have a little toothed enclosure to fit into. 3 or 4 teeth clockwise (from the right side) should do it for the front, and 1 or 2 clockwise from the left from the back.

hope this helps

That is an original HPI RS4 (possibly the Pro version) it most likley dates back to 95-97, it even has the old electronics (IE tekin 411 g2, and by the looks of it a Trinity D2 motor) nice peice of history there. This thing brought touring car to what it is today

Awsome thanks guys, I now know what this is and hopefully how to fix it :P (My LHS had no idea what it was, and said "there might be a belt tensioner." LoL.)
My brother got this car for $40 as is from an indoor swapmeet
All of the electronics work great, the only other thing i see wrong is the front end, is there supposed to be a bumper of some sort? It looks like something broke off the chasis Thanks again, klen.

dammit...

Yeah there's supposed to be a bumper. You could probably make one out of a lump of closed cell foam and some plastic.

What are those two tall veritcal rods in front of the shock tower?
Are they for the body? It also has body mounts on the inside of the tower, or is it just different than mine?
Same with the rear end. ??

So if this in fact is a TF-2, How would i go about tightening the belts? I haven't taken it apart yet, but i want at least a little knowledge before i do.

Rebuild it in sections man. And learn about it while you go along. Learn the adjusment limites with the rebuild. Google it and search for this type of car. You have clues.

TF-2R, (I have three of them). There is no way to tighten the front belt, but there is a place in the rear to put a bolt through with bearings on it. (helps) You have the optional 2sp... so you have no reverse or... BRAKES... stupid design!! Looks like you might have a front one-way lay shaft (is the cog metal?)... never seen that with the 2sp.

Also your chassis is broken in the front. It should extend beyond the front bulkhead, and have three screw holes for the bumper.
