it just looks like you would be compressing the springs instead of bringing the ride height up any

Its tigermoth, and alot of it is losi, associtated, etc. I doubt that they are affiliated with anything AE.

Myself and a co-worker were giving this design a lot of consideration and the only thing we could come up with was that the cams that actuate the shocks have un-equal length arms so that the shock compresses more than the upstroke of the arm. The shock floats on those pivot points and rotates as the arm goes up while the cam is compressing it. Would love to see a video of it in full travel to verify...
