Ahh yes! I remember that now. I used to have those shocks on my FTTC3 and used the foam when I raced in Stock Rubber back in 2003 using my older brushed gear.

Got any other tips and tricks that you wouldn't sharing? Could PM if you don't want to share publicly.

I know of the shaving of the web under the pinion so I can run the proper gearing to be competitive.

Any tips to keep from losing the castor block king pins?? I remember this being a huge problem for me back in '03/'04 and again when I raced VTA back in '11.

First post, and I have a question!

I just bought a tc3 car to make a vta racer out of it. Most of the bodies for vta are 200mm, and my car is too narrow. What wheel offset should I look for in HPI's vintage wheels to make the wheel fit flush with the body?

I have raced pan car oval for many years but I am a touring car newbie. Thanks for any help you guys can give!

There is only one legal type of wheel for VTA. Its a good idea to check the rules here http://www.usvintagetransam.com/rules/index.html before you start spending money on the wrong stuff. The 200 mm VTA legal bodies will fit your TC3 fine as is. No need to widen it at all. The legal HPI front wheels claim to have no off set, but they do seem to make the car slightly wider than with regular touring car tires. The rears have a 6 mm off set.

Yeah reading the rules is a good thing. You can buy what ever you need or want for that TC3 as far as hop ups go but you have to run 1 of 16 legal bodies, 1 of 6 wheel types, and you can only run 1 type of tire with the supplied foam inserts. Ride height at a minimum of 5mm and race weight of 1550grams. Any 2s 5000mah lipo but nothing higher.

So far my VTA build is going slowly but making progress. Tonight I wasn't able to make it a complete roller, just short of 4 wheel bearings. I was able to get the stub axles and 2 dog bones full set of wheels and rear tires. I was also able to borrow a dremel and shave out the webbing under the pinion.

My budget is $250 to get up and running, I've so far spent $161.63. I still need to buy 4 bearings, front tires, spur gear, 2-3 pinions, springs, shock rebuild kit, body, paint. Going to be pushing my $250 budget very close. I should be up and running in 2 weeks but I'm not expecting it just in case.

Thanks, I was confused with thte different style of wheels. I did not realize they were the same offset for different styles. I have an edge and a 25.5 so I should be good to go. Now to pick a body.

You can swap the wheel hexes to change the width, stock hex is 5.6mm

You can use 9893 5.9mm or 9890 6.8mm with the stock axles and low profile nuts, to use 9892 8.7mm you will need the 2402 CVA's.

AE had a 200mm widening kit. I bought two, many years ago when my son and I raced TC3s. He sold his car, but mine has set on a shelf, along with that extra 200mm kit. Guess I better dig it out if I'm going VTA...

I run a TC3 with the HPI wheels and tires, fits my body just fine 69 Camaro. Not sure what all the fuss about widening the car is??

So Rojna, is your assertion that the car will handle better with the wider hexes?

I would not mind trying it, not interested in different cvds but I would go out to the 12mm hexes if I can make them fit.

less traction rolling when its wider, there all 12mm hexe's just different thickness, AE & LOSI make some, I usally run AE 9890 hexes with low profile nuts, thats the most you will get without swapping to 2402 CVA's. It adds around 2.4mm to the total width, dosnt sound like a lot but you will see & feel it

Wider is better! Which do you suggest using? 5.9mm or the 6.8mm? Where can I find the lower profile wheel nuts??

Yes, wider should be better

My TC3 has 9892 (8.7mm) in front and 9890 6.8mm) rear, front axles are 2402 and rear are stock. Remember that with VTA wheels your rear will always be wider.
AE and LOSI both sell low profile locknuts, AE has blue aluminum ones, I wanted red to match my body colors and found some on ebay

Thanks for the visuals! Still stuck in non-roller form currently. Going to see if I can scavenge some wheel bearings from my Losi XXX-SCT but I'm sure none of those will work.

I was wrong with my thoughts. The rear wheel bearings in my Losi XXX-SCB/T are the right size and were in perfect condition so now I have a roller TC3. Has the FT blue screws and that is it, otherwise it's your standard RTR kit with nothing upgraded on it. I will need to upgrade the rear control arms though, the current ones only have 1 spot for the lower shock mount. Most setup sheets I've looked at use the inner location.

Still need front tires, speed control/motor, servo, body, paint. Speed control/motor and servo are on their way I hope.
