Tamiya F104 Pro!

seems to me after getting everyone on board with the "cheap" 103, clubs wouldn't be to excited about bringing in the "not so cheap" 104. but thats just me.

I'm sure you've probably spotted this by now, but information is starting to appear on the official Tamiya web site:
F104
Does anyone know how the battery goes in and out?

That basically boils it down.
Disclaimer: all of the following is conjecture since neither car is in the hands of the public as of now.
I'd say that the HPI is more "toy car" and the F104PRO is more "race car" much like the distinction between the Slash and the SC10 in the off-road SCT world. To carry that same comparison further, much like with the Slash, a proper injection of money will bring the HPI up to near-parity with its peers.
Quite simply, they are different animals.
Out of the box, the HPI will be more suited to fun bashing and racing. It looks to be designed for durability and low maintenance. The F104PRO is pure race car -- superior on the track but you wouldn't see me ripping it around on the street in front of my house.
HPI will certainly offer a full range of hop-ups that will bring its car up to full competition spec, much like the entry-level Cyclone S will accept most of the high-end Cyclone TC parts.
When similarly equipped it'll come down to driver skill. Out of the box you're comparing apples to oranges.

f104, longer and narrower, maybe easier to drive. scale looks is great. hope this brings more interest back into F1 racing.
vyger, can't wait for your paintjobs on the F104

hi bakaguyjean,
i am almost ready to buy one. but one question... will LIPO fit, especially those whose battery wires exit on top (e.g. Orion)?
thanks.
