Default Set up help

Hello,

looking for a base set up for carpet for my new 104X1. I found one setup sheet on Competition X. I am not sure if this is for carpet or not but I would like some other thoughts as well. The car is just a roller at this point with no electronics yet.

http://www.competitionx.com/rc-suppo...y-and-details/

Also some suggestions for tires, I am assuming soft rear and medium fronts but this is just a guess. I would like to stick with Tamiya tires. I realize this may change a little depending on where I am running.

The consensus says Pit Shimizu F1 softs up front and R1 hard in the rear, UF1 guys are really liking those tires on carpet. I just got a set and havent tried them out, but I tend to listen to those guys the most.

Just waiting on my f104 x1 to arrive and chasing up a few other bits and pieces. Could anyone suggest foams for asphalt? Low traction surface (originally was a tennis court). I've got shimizu 571/572 for rubber to try out as well which looks to be the ultimate rubber choice?

Also wondering can you fit a f104w body on a x1 without using the f103 front end?

I was killing myself trying to figure out how to get the motor wires to clear the body and the pod in the back; anyone else try this? I filed out the webbing between the screw mounts.

As long as nothing binds but it looks pretty snug

Better to use smaller 16g wire.

You don't want the pod of a pan car bound up like that, it will ruin the handling.
I'm sure there are better pics than this somewhere, but you get the idea.

Your definitely going to want to use a smaller gauge wire like 16ga. My car is set up with a shorty pack and a tekin in the center of the chassis but heres a few pics for ideas....

Strange question. How thick is the foam on Tamiya's foam tires? Thanks.

Same set work great on asphalt. Also the 574 is a good choice for more steering if needed. Although there's plenty with 571/572 once you get the setup right.

With reagards to people using low profile servos and lying them on their backs to have the steering arms flat, I did something that cost me nothing and works almost as well.
I mounted my servo upside down and turned the servo saver the other way as well. I had to file the back of the servo so the wires go straight out the back. Result: arms sitting much flatter now and the steering looks better. Haven't taken it out for a spin as it's raining here at the moment.
I'll put up some pics later though.
