i wonder how much work would be needed to modify the current f104 to the
X1?

I have the F104 pro blue one and i have this one pretty well set up at the moment with rubbers, how ever i would like to put the counter weight otion on the axle area.

maybe if were lucky they may also do a conversion kit

Really, what is the difference between the black edition (just black metal parts instead of blue?), the x1 and pro that justifies the price? I know the F60 and Mclaren are FRP, no aluminum or pro diff.

the x1 has a ton of aluminum parts and that whole 'new' rear-end setup

the Pro/Black/Blue editions have the carbon upper/lower decks and carbon damper plate, aluminum turnbuckles and foam tires as well

You have 2 ways to go- X1 or buy a F60 or McLaren kit and put a couple things on it, like the split top deck, heavy pivot, shock, and maybe pro diff. The pro black or pro are great, but I'm starting to think that the split deck, heavy pivot, and FRP lower are a big advantage. So you're paying for stuff that may not do you a lot of good.

Wonder how bad it's gonna hurt ($) to get the X1 stuff to bolt on to our current 104s?

I was asking myself that very same question. I decided to go with the Pro Black Special Edition... why?
Cause I'm told the X1 wont be in the US until August but not only that. Tower lists the X1 at $275....
That apparently is WITHOUT wheels, Tires, Body and wings! Maybe even without a motor too! So.... you will only get the rolling chassis!

My main reason though is that I want to get the car now. After 15 yrs of Nitro and electric touring car, this will be my first F1 car.... so some learning to do

Plus.... as has been stated here and I believe. The difference in the cars will not mean the difference between 1 and 10th in the worlds or even the state champs let alone a club race. Not for me that is .......

That was my reasonning.
(Although .... the X1 does look a cool car!! )

Wha? ..... The Black F104 Pro? Sure.
Although you could get the more basic F104 for alot less with little loss in performance it would seam but less $

Well said friend! The best investment is time spent practicing and setting up the car.

Thanks for the advice guys, although I think I am going to have to go with the pro black. The way I see it, time spent waiting for the X1 is time I could be having fun with the pro

i agree to what has been said that the top split deck that tamiya releasd has made a great deal of differance to the way the car reacts on rubbers on the tarmac, i feel the car has alittle more corner speed.

i still would like to know if the rear axle set up wiould slip into my current f104 so i could get the counter weight set up happening
time will tell
