Lipo in World GT Racing
Hey, all. This past summer my local track started a World GT class where most of us ran 4-cell/13.5 but a few guys also ran 7.4v/17.5 turn. We found the 7.4v/17.5 to be nearly identical in speed to 4-cell/13.5 on our large outdoor asphalt track. My question is, are any of your tracks running a "mixed" class in World GT and if so what are the different motor combinations. I know the new SMC 3.7v 4000mah pack was just released, so I'm pretty anxious to hear about this pack and the setup used to make it work. Any info is greatly appreciated!!
P.S. The reason for this thread is because I'm sick of Ni-mh packs but I want to run my WGT car again!!
Edit: I'm running a Sped Spec II and 4-cell/13.5....in case anyone wanted to know. I was wondering if SMC could alter their 1S2P 4000mah pack to make a 2S1P 2000mah pack so anyone with a "4-cell only" chassis could run a "hard case" pack with a 17.5 or 21.5 motor......I'll stop rambling now!!

This along with lipo 12th needs to be made legal and put into the rules.

Hoff, I couldn't agree more!! I've been keeping up with your results with the SMC 3.7v pack on other threads. Sounds very very promising!! Since we're running 13.5 motor in WGT I'm kinda hoping we could get some hard cased 7.4v packs and run 17.5 or 21.5 so we won't need a booster or rx pack.

Our local BRR race series rules in Northern California allowed 13.5/4-cell or 17.5/lipo. Recently, the lipos were limited to Orion 2400 packs.

Iam going to be running this BBR series that Still Bill is talking about this winter leading up to the series next year. The brushless- LiPo combination in a pan car is what got me back into racing after a three year layoff. To me it is a win-win situation, no battery wars and not having to cut and rebrush a motor every couple of runs. The brush-less and LiPo world is all very new to me so I will be on a learning curve for quite some time, but Iam really looking forward to it

For now, NorCal is limiting my lipo battery to the discontinued Orion 2400. You should be able to find it for $35-40. Just one will do because I run the same battery over and over.
Your learning curve will be quite short with brushless and lipo. Just practice, practice, practice...to your heart's content.

Why not race 10.5 single cell Lipo or 8.5 on bigger tracks. For those who don't want to run a reciever pack the Novak Booster circuit will be the way to go.
Single Lipo means no balancing ever needed plus the car will be lighter so wear and tear will be lower as well. Plus the pack can be used in a 12th scale.

If there is a demand for a 2S1P pack in our current case we could do this.
I still think running the single cell pack with the motor you need to go the speed desired would be the way to go. As of now it seems like the LRP , Novak and Speed Passion speed controls work well in 12th scale with the single cell pack. Plus the only issue we have seen is a dumpy feeling around the 6 minute mark with certain speed controls. So running a 5 minute run in World GT should work with all speed controls.

We allow single-cell LiPo in the UK, provided it is a hard-case pack. However, I think it will be a cold day in hell when we allow 7.4v in the Pan Car classes. This is a potential safety hazard, since although we can say "No motor above (say) 13.5" there is always the chance that someone will try something stupid...
3.7v in GT10 also allows anyone from 12th or TC to come into the class and not have to buy a new motor. It makes sense...
Agree with Danny, the 3.7v is not only the way to go, but the product is already available.

I am very interested in this subject also(Gen X10 sitting on the shelf). Hate to buy new sub c cells if we can get a lipo class going. Problem is the different pack configurations for chassis setups. I don't see a problem running 7.4 with a 21.5 but that won't work with anything but CRC x10. Then the new smc single cell won't work on T plate cars. Hope to see everyones thoughts on this issue.
