fdr for RZ & silver can motors: a few questions
Hi there.
Whats a recommended FDR for Tamiya RZ (23t) & 27T silver can motors Cars are Ta05 & TA05-ifsR I'm guessing the TZ is 5.3(the box is in Japanese) Searching a few forums suggests 4.0 for the silvercan Are ratio's these about right for a starting point?? I know that straining the motor from is bad for it, what about having it under-geared: will it over rev and damage the motor Do the higher turn motors need higher or lower gear ratio's? Thanks |
Undergearing won't damage the motor as it won't over-rev. The motors known to over-rev are some super-high-power low-turn brushless (3.5T). The only down side to undergearing is you will loose top speed...

Thanks Tamiya RZ manual recommends 7.0 - 6.5 FDR. I already try it as low as 5.5 ..... but I play safe at 5.75. I use silver trinity brush ( expensive brush ). No burns on the comm after 8 minutes run. I don't know the max FDR for silver can. High turn motor needs low and lower FDR. ex. 27T stock motor is preferable with 4 - 4.5 FDR. Low turn motor needs high and higher FDR. ex. 7T modified motor is preferable with 8 - 8.5 FDR. Over geared motor, ex. 7T modified motor with 6.5 FDR, the motor winding mostly will blow up ( burnt ), or the comm will be burnt, notice the purple or black marks on the comm and brushes. Under geared motor, the motor will kind of over rev, but it won't go broke or damage ..... It's just your car will be slower than the rest. Tips : Hard springs and Silver Brushes. |
