Depends on the all sorts of things, personally I prefer the 12.5 mm rotor over the 13.

Hi guys I have a quick question.

I just bought a 6.5T LRP X11 motor and wondered where to start with the timing and gearing. I will be using the Speed Passion GT 2.0 and the track is medium size.

A conservative start point would be great, since I can gear up from there without toasting the motor.

I think that the LCD allows you to manipulate the ESC more than the box does. I dont even use my boxes anymore. LCD and.or computer

I think it determines how much or how little space you have before your car moves when pulling the trigger on your remote. depending on where its set, you either pull a little and your car goes or you pull a lot and then your car goes.

I used to have mine set at 6, but i have a heavy trigger finger and the car was a little to sensitive... so i inscreased it.

How come the advance timing of this motor is clockwise and
not counterclockwise like other brushless motor?

You will find that the 10 Deg mark pushed against the sensor housing is 10 Deg, which is anti clockwise.

I'd appreciate some more feedback on the functon of the capacitor and especially its relationship to braking.

One function of the capacitor will be to low pass filter and remove some of the higher switching artefacts. In this usage, adding more capacitance past a certain point, will not add any value.

Is another function to act as an energy reserve for the braking function?

I'm not familiar with the internals of a brushless ESC, so do not have a feel for exactly how the braking function works (I guess most of it would be firmware apart from the critical FETs).

On that point, does anyone have a reference to an article that describes the hardware and firmware functions of a modern brushless ESC?

Is there new software being developed which will have a "boost" style function of ramping up timing at full throttle as this is all the rage at the moment in the top line speedies?

What are the differences between the new line of SP mod motors and the older 2.0 series?

I second that "boost" or "turbo" mode query... tired of getting whipped on the straights in stock races.

Gee I don't know about that. I have heard lots of comments about x205x software you guys all run but I run much much older and find it faster. I believe its the 4th up from the bottom of the list. It has more top end than anything else I have tried and has a nice feel about it too.
