  • Quote: Sorry man but I think you have it totally wrong... obviously you havent read HW definitive guide to how 422 works. The real benefit of 422 has nothing to do with the turbo... Its is the fact that it has dynamic timing. Turbo is just a bad name.

The real reason 422 and 518 way out perform 230/231/324/410 is because they were esentially like 205 or others but with turbo.

422 is completely different and will make the motor run much cooler because of the dynamic timing (not anything at all to do with turbo) and also much faster.

#9 is boost timing max of 21 degrees (or 26 on SP although I think it really is 21)
#12 is turbo timing max of 8 degrees
    #13 is boost start RPM
    #14 is turbo delay
#15 is timing punch (the amount of RPM needed for an increase of 1 degree after the boost start RPM and note:nothing to do with turbo)

Example #A: When motor speed reaches 4500RPM, the ESC begins to increase the internal timing with the
step of 1 Degree per 200 RPM increment.
Example #B: When motor speed reaches 6000RPM, the ESC begins to increase the internal timing with the
step of 1 Degree per 300 RPM increment.
Because Example #A uses lower Boost Start RPM and lower Timing Punch settings, it products a faster
internal timing increase, that means the motor has a faster acceleration, but the motor will be hotter.

In the very near future there will be no turbo option. It is just a bandage for programming that isn't quite right.

Thank you for the clarification with Hobbywing information. I am unaware about what/how hobbywing define their own 422 software. I am just trying not to apply their thinking onto my SPEED PASSION speedo control and software and expect to have the same performance like Hobbywing does.

DMTS setup @ 1 is test proved and will work without problem....he can try 4 or 5 after temping the motor and speed. It is his options.

I have Marc Rheinard, Viktor Wilck, Yannic Prümper's setup....will have that post on Speed Passion website once they are done.
  • I guess you have to remember that 422 was made at HW so they will know how it works like no one else.

  • Been really enjoying the new software..

Just wondering what suggestions are out there for my setup just to see how far off i am setting this up on my own.

    Im running:
-small indoor track, straight away is about a 1-2second squirt of Full throttle., Technical infield. Traction is medium to high depending on the prep. WE run double dees these days.
    2wd buggy
    13.5 SP v3 motor
    FDR of around 8

Let me know what your 1-15 suggestion would be. id like to try something different
  • Hello everyone,

I just bought a SP GT 2.0 LPF , I've installed it and done everything, but i dont understand a few things .
In the instructions, it says only 9.5t and over if i use a lipo batery , 5.5t and over with 6 cells/7,2 v .
    Can i use a 5.5t motor with my 7.4v lipo ?
Second of all, how do I update my ESC firmware/software, I read somewhere that it had USB fonctionality, but it didnt come with a USB-esc cable, only came with program card and the rest .
Last, could anyone share their ESC setup values , i.e : tell me what item you are using ( timing , max brake, max reverse ...) and say what value you have ( number of flashing green led )
PS : Il be running a 13.5t LRP x12 with my GT 2.0 LPF

Thank you for any help , greatly appreciated
  • Quote: just check back for replies from Shawn. If i remember correctly he said the esc can run mod but you have to change teh software to suit.
The GT 2.1 comes with v110 software installed.
Do find it odd that SP doesnt list the specs on the website of have the manual listed.
Anyone who is running the GT2.1 please check specs on your esc box or in the manual.
    Thanks razzor,
I'm aware that you need to change the firmware to run MOD. What I wasn't sure of is if the GT2.1 had the same hardware as the GT2.0 Pro.
I did look at Shawn's previous replies and he does suggest they are very similar, but then others disagree.

Anyway, I now have a GT2.1 of my very own! Can't wait to get it on the track, sure does seem mega fast on the bench.

The manual shows a few specs:
    Resistance= 0.0003 ohm (same as GT2.0 Pro)
Motor up to 5.0T (GT2.0 Pro supports 3.5T)
    No mention of max current.

Judging by the different motor limits, the GT2.1 isn't quite the same as the GT2.0 Pro inside, although the resistance is the same, wierd.

As a matter of interest mine didn't come with the big 4piece cap or the 12AWG wire shown on the SP website. Why not?

Any comments from Shawn or Adam? I've not seen them on here recently.

    Cheers, Frank
  • Hello All,
Ive been running a SP Gt2 for a few weeks in mod touring cars. Straight out of the box and its been really good. Ive now got my self a LCD box on the way so that i can update the software, just wondering what sort of settings people are using?

    3.5t for outright pace?
5.5t and "stock" software for mega timing etc?

For motor choice i have 3.5, 4.5, and 5.5 in SP V3 motors to try.

    Cheers

My GT2.1 prostock came with a 4pc cap.

  • Hello, I've been reading through the thread for a while, and I dont really undestand what some of you say .
What are these sorftware 422/518 , or the " 205g " setup , what about dmts or amts, is it only enabled in the new firmware that also enables #12 to 15 ?
I recently bought a GT 2.0 LPF for 13.5 racing , do you recomend me to get the PRO program card so I can program/update it via my PC , or is the basic software good enough for 13.5 without the " supercharge / boost " setting ?
Finally can someone clear things up by telling me what exactl the supercharge and boost settings are , what do they do .

    Thank you

i suggest you get the lcd program card and basically in laimans term it is progressive timing it make the car feel or have like a second gear or boost down the straight away like the mamba max pro or the tekin rs
  • Just read the post that solara quoted me on at the top of the page with regards to how 422/518 works.

And yes 422/518 can only be downloaded off the net and do not come standard with the esc.
