just picked up a MI4CX to test
i can say the car is quite interesting, builds very nice. Driveline is butter smooth, driveshafts look absolutely bullet proof.


Are there any parts that are must have?
Any mod that must be done?

Anybody tried fitting somedouble joint driveshafts, other than the Spec-R shafts?

Found these 2 on Amain in about 30 seconds.

But if you want it all, just order direct from Schumacher UK. Fast shipping and easy to deal with. Plus if they don't have it, no one will!

when building the shocks...
are the Clear o-rings better or should I use the Reds?

I have used 52mm xray ecs's. Don't see why the spec-r xray ones wouldn't work. They are sure cheaper. They also have a version2 out.

do not use the clear-use the newer double o-rings (2 blue rings)

narrow front hex (tuning option) and the metal center pulley (stock is not metal) are good to have.

the outdrives can easily be sealed with ae green slime and new orings

but

careful on screwing the case together-overscrewing actually causes the case to not seal and open up.......the screw has sunk to deep and now separates the case....

The blue o rings are intended for the off road shocks. The clear o ring is still Schumacher's prime for the on road shock.

trust me, the clear will leak--again thats why the new CX ships with the blue...AVOID THE CLEAR

I have found the Associated red o-rings keep leaking to a minimum. Also should be very easy to get a hold of.

That"s funny, just sold 3 new kits sent from Schumacher direct and build one for one of the buyers, only clear O Rings in the kit and the red ones that have more drag, funny thing to, 2 of the 3 kits came with 4 white springs and 1 came with 2 blue, 2 white as per normal.

When you buy the rebuild kits you get the blue ones, has been this way for years, they have more drag and keep the dirt out better for offroad.

I have had some shock that leak from new but most have been fine, one shock I had I found that changing the shock shaft fixed the problem, don't know why the original shaft looked fine and was the correct size.

We have done a lot of testing with the Spec-R diff and have found that using a automotive CV grease on the O Rings works great and the thin O Ring for the top from Demon racing in the UK, also using the Tamiya anti wear grease on the gasket helps as well if you don't have the thin O ring.

also if you loose rear grip we have found going thicker in the diff oil helps a lot, we use 1000wt when the track has good grip and 2000wt when it is not so good, AE oil, fresh oil makes a different as well.

This is running Mod with 4.5 turn motors.
