Questions?? How to use Tire Warmers right.

Hi Jilles,

do you have any advise for me on how to use Tire Warmers the right way in combination with additive?

Yesterday we had a race at my home track, the temperatures were pretty low (air about 15C, don't know how warm the track was, but the was no sun for the whole day).
We had to use Sorex 36 (GM insert and wheel) controll tyres.

The way I did yesterday, was saucing the tires 20min before the run with TireTweak and heating them to 60C for same amount of time.
The two main problems were, that the tires cooled down so much in the starting grid and therefore the first lap was pretty tricky to drive.
And the 2nd one that the front tires weared down verry quick and after 6 runs you could see the insert because of a grove on the inside of the front right tire (with 5 cell and 9.5T or LiPo and 13.5T).

Perhaps you have any tricks for me, so that the Tires last at least for 10 to 12 runs
Is there any other additive which isn't that agressive, but gives the same ammount of grip? (smelly ones aren't allowed)

Here are some pictures of our track. We run it counter clockwise.
It's in germany, near of the boarder to the Netherlands.
Come to us to run there! It's one of finest electro tracks in Germany, besides Andernach (you have to change the "xx" to "tt" )

Default Understeeling

Hi Jilles,

I was using exactly the basic outdoor rubber set up but without antidive at a local bumpy track on last Saturday. My car was seriously understeeling at a 300 degree and a double S corner. ( I ran a 7.5R motor, gear rating 7.26 ) I tried to tight and untight the shock ring from 1/4 to 3/4 in order to increase and decrease car's floating but the problem still remained. Would you please advising me how you are going to change the set up to improve this? Thank you.

hi Jilles,

with the basic set up from the manual book, my 416 very understeer when on throttle, the change i did only using xray shock oil 450 ctg (front-rear) with 80% rebound..other things is exactly the same with TRF 416 Standard set up that i download from internet.

what should i do??

another question, in my local race, in 23t class the tires is rubber and foam legal...i wonder which tyre is the best for my 416?the surface is medium-high grip asphalt.i always use Sorex 40R- medium C inner - speedmind wheels.

thanks Jilles...

Hi Jilles,

I am still trying to get a hold of a kit but today have been told Tamiya have stopped producing the 416. Are you aware if this is the case?

All Tamiya TRF cars are limited run. They typically only make one batch and that's it. I think only the original 416 had two runs cause it was so popular. We'll see what they do with the WE...

Hi Jilles,

I have tested your ''Outdoor rubber standard set up'' with 10.5 and lipos on this track:
w ww.rcsantaoliva.com/images/stories/fotos_aereas_pista.jpg
Grip: Medium
Track temp: 25

With this set up, the car is very understeer in the slower part. I think that the car needs to be more agressive on steer. I have changed 0.5mm spacer to front wheels, 1.0mm to rear, blue tamiya spring front and rear but the problem still remained. What should I change?

Thank you,

Hi Jilles, thank you very much for sharing your knowledge, is very helpful. I would ask, not about the setup of the car, but how you make an important race, you can give any recomendations.

Greetings, Luis C.

Hi Jilles,

Thanks for your reply. Do you know if there are some new damper stays coming out - 84086 and 84087? Can you tell us what the difference is - more holes?

The track looks really nice!
Well, I think Tire Tweak is still the best choice for Sorex 36tyres. 20min is oke with 60 degree tire warmer. After you take off the tyre warmer, dry the tyre with a paper and after clean the tyre a little with some motorspray, this will help your first lap a lot. 6 runs with 36R is a little fast but it depends a lot on the asphalt ofcourse.

Yes, on foam I always use same tyres front and rear. Ofcourse you can try little harder in front if the car is oversteering.

Try to narrow the front to C-C block. Or lay in the rear shocks one step.

Take out all the rebound in your shocks. Try 600W front and 500W rear.
At my home track the RP30 tyre is working the best, it's 0.2 sec faster then Sorex 36.

I'm not sure about this information. I will check with Tamiya if this is really true that they don't make another batch of 416.

I suggest to try HB springs, like Silver. These springs make the car more aggressive. ALso make the front more narrow.

You mean the foam on top of the shock to increase rebound?

I always use swaybars. Sometimes I test without swaybars but I always find the car to loose in the middle of the corner, less stable.

Before a important race I always rebuild my car completely and check all parts. Then I built my car with a starting set-up which I think will be the best set-up to start with. Before the race I practise a few batteries at my local track to "run in" the car and set belts, Diff and check steering throw left/right.

I haven't heard about this.

Green Speed,
Nice to hear!
