how often do you replace the internal gears in your gear diff V2?

my first one slipped after 5 batts (maybe breaking it in in the bench is not a good idea). i bought another one and put 0.1 shim in addition to the shim supplied in the kit. hopefully it will last longer

The way I build the diff now, I don't have to replace the gears much. Using on both sides 3 x 0.1mm shims and use a little bit of sanding on both big gears the diff last very long. Stay tune for my new movie on Redrc with the diff building movie.

Yes, I heard about the ATS. First round is third weekend of Nov at Yatabe Arena. Second round in March at RC Addict and final round April in Shanghai!

I usually use LRP carpet2 or CS yellow. I suggest to use fresh additives but I don't say that old doesn't work.

Usually I use the putty gum in the front diff. Build it with a little oil to prevent too much wear on the gears.

Not sure about the short springs, I think they are for the mini?

Hi Jilles,

I've been reading your tips for awhile now, thanks for the knowledge! Just wondering how you think the 2012 417 will handle on high bite asphalt/carpet tracks compared to the existing 417. I know the motor mount will be split and more flex in the chassis, is this good or bad for high traction? Seems like the 2012 version might be better at some tracks while the current version could be better at others..just curious your thoughts. Thanks.

Using the split/seperate suspension blocks....

Is it possible to get 3 degrees rear toe in?

The only ones I have been able to find are the following...

a 1xa and a 1e on the rear of the car will give 3 degrees of rear toe.

But as noted above. Use a 1A/1XA block, with the 1E to get 3°.

I'm not Jilles, but I did a back to back last weekend between split blocks and one-pieces. If your using a standard top-deck (i.e. not cutting the braces), then you'll get more overall grip, with a balance shift to the front... in other words, more steering!
I find the cut topdeck tends to shift the balance back a little to the rear of the car (more traction), but with the split blocks and cut top deck, you still get a little more steering.

Hopefully Jilles can comment on this too, he's got a lot more experience running that setup (and better thumbs!) than I have

Hi Jilles,

I am wondering if you know where the piston sit in the damper body at ride height on your 417. I (like alot of other people) use them on other touring cars and I know that the piston position is somewhat important so I would like to assemble them for my car as they were designed to be run on the Tamiyas.
